I'm not a huge fan of car alarms, I have extuinguished plenty of cars with the best systems, perosanly I would maybe add a tilt sensor but other than that a good custom fitted emobiliser, not a generic one that hooks up to the usual circuts, basicaly if they want it they'll get it

tilt sensor and a custom install are 2 key things.
Even having a secret kill switch can help.

dynamco make good systems. other good brands to check out are "mongoose" and "autowatch" . depends which is the highest priority, theft of the car or theft of cars contents or parts. at the very least you should get an australian standards approved engine immobiliser to prevent theft of the car. the alarm pat is more for protecting the cars contents and parts. http://www.mongoose.com.au/ http://www.autowatch.com.au/index.asp http://www.carsafe.com.au/

g`day HSVsFORD
as you said....you get what you pay for. sometimes a bit less. 10 day warrenty sounds like a great deal, hmmmm. by the time it gets delivered your 10 days would nearly be up, but if you can i would be trying for a cash refund.

Do not fit an alarm to your car, the quickest way to have your car burn to the ground apart from actually putting a match to it.
Have personally had two cars catch on fire as I was driving them because the alarm shorts out. Both were quality brand systems that are on sale now, a third alarm I had would simply cut out the ignition at random times as you are driving along somtimes for 10-20 seconds sometimes for an hour leaving me stranded on the side of the road. Also had a bike alarm that left me stranded on the side of the road between Tamworth and Manilla at 2 am in the middle of nowhere..... All these alarms were either required by insurance or came in the car when I bought it, the bike alarm was an insurance requirement, and I threatened to sue the insurer, they refunded me the cost of the alarm and had a new alarm system fitted to the bike at their expense which I removed as soon as the installer had left.... Save your money, the worst thing you can do to a car, and any car thief will not be bothered by them anyway, they will just take the car anyway. |

if i was stealing a car with a car alarm the only thing that would stop be is the battery back up alarm. Personally i didn't bother hooking up the immobilizer in my car its to easy to by pass if they can get past the smart lock they can get past the immobilizer.
1 unplug alarm system 2 pop hood find siren snap it off and chuck it away 3 by pass immobilizer alarm gone in my car i have a red led for smart look and a blue 1 for the alarm side by side flashing. the only reason i got an alarm was because i wanted key less entry and the chirp when u unlock it and lock it for **** factor

Gee looks like theres no way of keeping thieves out of a car. Maybe its just simpler to remove the rotor button. Or maybe a switch in the car that cuts the wire going to the coil. Other than that hope for the best?

???? who have you guys been getting to fit your alarms and what kind do you use ???
if the job is done properly with the right equipment it will save the majority of cars, sure there will always be some cars and thieves that you cant stop but for the vast majority a good immobiliser and alarm fitted properly will save you. this has been proven.
