Default el xr8 gt kit

Hi guys

I've nearly sold my gt starlet turbo and am thinking of buying the following
1997 xh xr6 ute manual
1997 el xr6 manual
1997 el xr8 180kw version manual
1998 series 1 au xr6 manual

Which do you think I should get? Which has really good aftermarket performance support? Also what do you think the el xr8 180kw version would run down the 400 meters with exhaust and pod? I presume the xr8 would be the quikest of the 4

From what ive seen the el xr6 is quicker than the lot of them.

If you can get an EL2 XR8 then do that, if not go the EL/EL2 XR6

el2xr8 I presume is the 180kw version yeah? I heard about the xr6 being quiker than the xr8 but that would be compared to the ef series1 170kw version

How much are you looking at spending? the au is a better ute but thats just me xh have had the same body since the 80's.

Xh8 2 xr8 is 185kw (not that the xh1 had an xr8).

personally, money aside. id go for the XR8 hands down. if not the XR6 is nearly as sweet.

arn't the EL XR8s better when it comes to extracting more power?

Im biased towards V8s though, id but it just for the sound even if it was slower :P

if you're wanting to modify a v8, an AU would be a better bet than EL. for starters it comes with some half-reasonable heads. I looked at EL's and AU's (I had an EF for 5 years previously) and to me the AU felt a lot better to drive. the EL was starting to feel its age and the old arguments against the design of the AU seem to have faded - even Mercedes Benz decided the rear of the AU was a good design to copy (CLS55 AMG)
anyway i'd vote a v8 either way whether you go EL or AU. theres no disputing that the windsor has more aftermarket performance support than the i6, and the fuel consumption difference is very minimal.
expect the manual 185kw EL to do the 1/4 mile in low/mid 15's. AU1 probably high 14's or flat 15. if you can stretch to a AU3 XR8 220 it would be the pick of them all - can get them around $15k and do mid 14's stock.
I think its also worth noting that you may be able to get a non-xr for a much better price. spend the difference on mods and end up with a superior package.

yeah they're 185kw. easy to get them up to 200+ with exhaust and tune then chuck on some BF brakes and you've got a good package. if you can find one under 10k i reckon it would be a better buy than the other cars on your list...

AU1 are also 185kw. AUII upgraded to 200kw, then in the last of the AUIIs, this was upgraded to 220kW, just before it became series 3
