With a state govt not quite as hooked on speeding revenue as Vic/NSW... but developing an unhealthy habit... yeah, such views are rarely even voiced. Not even provided the opportunity to be shouted down lol.

More to the point, poor old Gunns is going to be pushing the proverbial up a steep hill in SA where politics reaches no further than the state-controlled issues facing mortgage belts of northern and southern suburbs. A large portion of the economy is driven by manufacturing (for now?) and so there's very little support for the conservatives and what they have to say.... but the people in surburban SA arent the ones that have to use the northern highways every day of their lives!! Rural voters used to rule the roost when i was a youngin, but now a lot of rural centres close to the city are just suburbs now full of $500k+ houses.

There was a big push at last state election from Mr Gunn's party to raise limits in metropolitan areas as well (reclassify a bunch of roads from 50 back to 60) but it seems SA voters arent too fussed??

Outside of the political arena - forget it. The local rag (has to be named to be shamed: The Advertiser) has footy on the front page, footy on the back page and social/footy related stories in between.

Lol, today a fantastic example of what it takes to get a political story on the front page... what with the wife of a local footy personality joining a major political party over the weekend to run for the federal seat of Boothby.

So... in answer to your question - people in Adelaide dont generally give a f--k about rural constiutents who have to deal with the decisions we make here in the city.

I hear ya mate, its the same up here in QLD. If you dont live in Brisbane, the State Government doesnt give a damn about you or your concerns.

Gunns been pushing 130km/h for key SA rural roads for many years now. Typically, what happens is that his bills on the matter are raised in parliamrnt for debate and are automatically put off for future debate, and so it goes in circles over and over.

SA ALP are responsible for the continuing putting-off of the proposed measure, been so many years now.

We do need, or rather should, improve some 'basics' first, improved ADR specification and standards requirements before blindingly raising limits.

I would suggest rather than proposing 130km/h and risking the bunching-up effect that occures even at higher speed limit allowance, that SA adopt instead (//) to the proposed lengths of road to reduce on-road nervous tension and bunching-up.

NSW would likely go down this path within 3-5 years for its western remote rural highways, a speed-limit really makes no sense whatsoever on thse key remote state highways.

They are often ignored and that brings disrespect for other speed-limits that might be better warranted, and in safety terms are quite pointless.
