Yes..0-100 very relevant to those who don't do 200km/h in public streets.

You will get absolutely flogged by any car ever made or modified by anyone ever in Australia if you line up a Model S Tesla.

Get a professional driver, launch any way you want...my grandma could beat any HSV/FPV blah blah is she were driving the "S".

And...recently flogged the SuperCheap auto V8 supercar in a journo day.

.
See Zilo- your original post did not respond to the OP's question, "0-100 what is considered fast." The question was not- "0-100 what is considered stupidly slow".

But anyway, putting aside your initial inflammatory response, there is no doubt electric cars have virtues. Mines use electric engines in their most massive equipment because of the incredible instant torque, and the Tesla is very quick in acceleration.

But to some there is a visceral auditory component to driving. When I want to really have fun, I switch bimodal off, and drive with all 4 windows open, for the sound. I love the 6 speed gearbox and the noises and vibrations/senses that are tickled when heel and towing the gearbox down, with the auditory cackle on overrun, and the insane feral howl when allowing the Miami fully off the leash.

Yeah- the Tesla may be faster, but is it more fun to drive? Bit like having sex deaf, with a layer of cushioning rubber covering you everywhere to not feel the vibrations, and being limited to 1 minute before being shut down.

A pilot who flew jet airliners said he preferred flying small planes with props as it was real flying, shakes, wobbles- you feel things. One of the most fun cars I have ever driven was my Ford Cortina Mk 11 GT with 1600 - two 40dcoe side draught webbers with trumpets and socks - it was like playing a musical coughing instrument - only just cracked below 9 secs into the high 8 secs 0-100 , but that did not matter- instant horn driving it.

And then of course- putting aside lack of sound and playing a gearbox innately connected with a musical engine, there is another problem. Three months ago buying a new aircon, in a factory next door (solar panel factory) was this open wheeler single seat square race car. I walk in, wanting to see what engine it had, thinking it would be a small block v8. Then had an interesting chat with the owner, was an electric race car, had competed in a division with petrol engine v8's, and had flogged the petrol competition. The petrol guys then increased race distance from some 8 laps to 20 laps, which meant that their race car could not compete and was now redundant.

Discussed about whether it could do a lap around Bathurst, and he conceded it probably could not, not the range, although he then pondered it may eek out 1 lap...poor guy was bit downcast - his machine was effectively impotent ......

Anyway- what I am saying is no issue appreciating the virtues of electric, but no need to be insulting of petrol motors and their virtues.

Perhaps for you to fully appreciate what I am saying, is for me to suggest you perhaps ditch that turbo Mitsubishi (which honestly sounds like a boring low voltage vacuum cleaner)- and get into a petrol car with a high powered v8 that has real acceleration with a soundtrack to match, you may then understand what I am trying to say.

Peace

This is great video that compares the Pro and Cons of Both Petrol and Electric Sport Sedans. so might be a good video for all to watch.

The Tesla is the fastest Sedan in Australia, not car... as Nismo GTRs, Lambos and 911 turbos and etc can beat the 3.2sec to 100 and the destroy it after the fact of reaching the 100km/h mark.

Clearly you haven't driven a Tesla and like the other threatened grease monkeys in this thread you feel threatened then resorting to personal attacks etc.

Okay....Since you mentioned it...

Tesla P90D now even faster 0-100.

1/4 mile in 10.9 seconds for the Ludicrous Mode.
0-100 in 2.8 seconds.

In full street trim.

That is a fast car.

No- just self employed professional who is paid for the written and oral language that I use on a daily basis, the better the language generally the better fee I get. And at my stage of life, - I have progressed beyond that stage where one feels impelled to dumb oneself down in terms of intellect so as to fit in.

I would not have thought enjoyment of sound during such activity constitutes peversion, rather an enjoyment of a natural element of the activity that leads to human creation- but what is one mans normal is anothers peversion it would seem....

[QUOTE=zilo;5518205] What a thread full of little children. [ /QUOTE]

Yes, my wife always says I am still a little boy - so you got me, but why cannot you seem to acknowledge that an electric car does not provide that sound delight factor and delight of sensations with a gearbox and clutch.

Surely you must concede that these elements are missing with an electric car and that a lot of people find these elements fun?

Still not the fastest car in Australia... it might quick or even the quickest to 100, but its not the fastest.

don't get me wrong... the tesla is a pretty epic car and is heading the right way for an electric car becoming more appealing to be people and main stream.

personally I would import and covert a Hellcat for the same price as a tesla.. but that's personal choice and I understand why the next bloke is happy with purchasing their tesla.

its good to have different tastes and wants in a car, otherwise it would be boring in the car world that's for sure... give me the theatre of a Hellcat at full power over a tesla, you yourself prefer the effortless tesla, which is cool...

you just need to take a bit of chill pill. that's all.

Also I will suggest to not have a go at the handling of XA falcon (40+yr old car), when a 2000kg, 4 door yank tank that is known not to be a great handler, out preforms the tesla in the motor tread handling tests in my previously attached video.

the Tesla is a luxury sedan that has future tech in it that can go in a straight line very fast. that is what it is... just like a hellcat, is a loud, in your face, fuel eating, tyre destroying 4 door muscle that is also fast.

Enjoy the differences...

Cheers mate.

What can I buy that comes stock, full warranty, no mods needed and can do 0-100 in 2.8, and 10.9 in the 1/4?

Also not be GPS locked to detect that it is not on a racetrack?

(cars modified for track use with no spare, seats etc don't count)

About as relevant to the OP as your inflammatory not on point response regarding all petrol cars being painfully slow as compared to the Tesla.

But, my response engaged with your post.

I expressed my opinion, and conceded that the Tesla is very fast given the instantaneous torque produced by electric motors. I also then provided my opinion about factors that add to enjoyment of cars that is divorced from a cars ability to accelerate fast from 0-100, which factors are missing in the Tesla.

Rather than insulting, engage and respond to the following:

1. Does the Tesla produce an engaging engine sound in terms of induction/exhaust?

2. Do people find an engaging engine sound in terms of induction/exhaust as providing an enjoyable experience when driving?

3. Does the Tesla have a manual gearbox/clutch?

4. Do people find using a manual gearbox/clutch coupled with an engaging engine as providing an enjoyable experience when driving?

But no doubt you will simply respond with another insult while cloaking yourself in "Emperors Clothes".
