Can some one please tell me if it was possible toorder a V6 GT CAPRI with the twin headlight front?
The car does have numbers in the S.V.O. BOX OF 703458 Also if this was the case how would I know its factory? I just got one which has a figerglass front and the guy swears black and blue it is a factory thing. Also were these cars a single rail or toploader? Also I am looking for as many pictures as possible of these cars inside and out, as the car is just about to be restored. |

Hello Michael,
I'm fairly sure that GT Capri's from 1969 to 1973 (Australian assembled) did not come with twin headlight fronts. The twin headlight version was the GXL (not available in Australia unless personally imported or if you bought an RS3100). GT's assembled in this country also did not come standard with factory fibreglass guards/bonnets/etc. I'm not sure why there are numbers in the svo section of the compliance plate. Are they the same font/script as the model and chassis numbers? Does the plate look like it has been tampered with? I would assume that if the car you have is a 1970 GT your model number should be 13018. Do you mind me asking how much you paid for the car? I'm trying to estimate values as I'm looking for a V6 GT myself. Thanks Jamie |

I think this has been covered in another thread.....or maybe on another forum. Ford never offered anything fibre glass from the factory, nor twin headlight in 1970, in this country. If you can post some pictures of your car, I may be able to shed some light on whats been done. You can buy aftermarket fibreglass panels from a few place, based on the RS models, but most of them are very poor quality so the are a terrible fit.
The gearboxes had external side linkages. Rumour has it some toploaders made their way into the later cars (1972) but I've yet to find one.....after 13 years of playing with Capris. If you need anymore info. drop me a line at maxrnb70@hotmail.com or contact our club via the website www.capricarclub.org.au I also have all the codes for all the Australian models so I can tell you exactly what you should have.
