Default Car thief gets what he deserves

Cop shoots driver dead after car chase
Thursday Jan 11 22:26 AEDT
A Perth policeman has shot dead the driver of a suspected stolen car who stabbed him after a high-speed chase.

A West Australian police spokesman said the vehicle pursuit ended in suburban Floreat when the driver lost control and crashed through the front fence of a house in Salvado Road.

When police approached, the driver got out of the car and lunged at the officer with a knife, stabbing him in the shoulder.

The spokesman said the officer shot the man in self defence and he died at the scene.

The wounded officer was admitted to Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital in a stable condition.

Police internal affairs and major crime detectives are investigating.

Finally ... a car thief gets what he deserves.

Ohh, I don't see this lasting long.

Shot because he attacked a police officer, not because he stole the car.

Haha, nice. If only the shot wasn't in self defence... that would rub salt in the wounds!

Hope the copper doesn't get punished for what he did, it was self defence and should get a medal for protecting himself and the public.

He has my full support.

I feel sorry for the cop, no cop wants to kill a suspect.

I'm surprised the cop got stabbed before shooting him, very lucky he only got it in the shoulder, too close to major organs for my liking.

Best wishes to the Policeman and his family, last thing you want to do in that job I'm sure!!

Reminds me of something silly I did in my youth. Somebody kept stealing the driving lights off my car when I was visiting a Northbridge nightclub. After losing two sets of expensive lights I put a gillette style safety razor blade behind the securing nut under the bumper bar figuring anyone trying to undo the nuts with their fingers after they had loosened them up would be in for an unpleasant surprise. Well it sort of worked. Yes the thief cut their fingers (there was lots of blood around) but they also kicked in my headlights and driving lights. I took to parking elsewhere.

You dont know that, the thief should have know that coming at a policeman with a knife is not a good idea.

No, I don't know that as I don't know that particular officer.. but I know plenty of officers that have said that exact thing to me over the years.

Australia’s Gang/Biker problems with the same formula, If you have a Biker Tat/might be in a gang the SAS bust in and shoot you, then they do a check to make sure your family/friends are not evolved too. Problem solved

My family on my mother's side aren't evolved yet.
Still cannibalistic savages. They are still trying to discover fire and learn a language. "Ooga Booga" can only mean so much.

Feel sorry for the cop and the trauma he'll now endure for the rest of his life. Mentally ofcourse.

I have no sympathy for the dead fool, for obvious reasons.

only cause the cmc and his boss are gonna haggle him to get out what actually happened and to see if he did wrong which in some circumstances i think is wrong like that other cop getting run over by a car, i would have shot into the car as well

even if he shot the suspect without having stabbed him first i still respect him

Too true! And segments of the victim mentallity promoting public will condemn the officer and ask for his head, causing him to further doubt his actions!

Yes you are right.. and that is the saddest part.. I hope that the support comes thick and fast for this officer as from what I have been told by some of the guys (past and present) that isn't always the case.

I don't claim know all the facts or the nature of the incident... but why couldn't the cop have aimed for the attacker's leg? And why did he have to fire so many times (four from what i have heard)

Like to see how you would react if you had a physco with a knife coming at you out:

I reckon if you sit down & actually think about the situation for a minute you'll be able to answer your own question :

I find it hard to feel sorry for these people with a "mental illness" who run around crashing cars, stabbing and shooting police and average everyday people. Too often in NSW these sort of investigations would conclude that the police should not have shot him because he had a mental illness. If they have mental illnesses that can't be controlled with medication and they are a threat to swociety, then they should be locked up for their own safety and the safety of the community.

Martyn Bryant had a mental illness and was allowed to remain living in the community until he went on to murder 35 innocent people.

A job well done by the WA policeman. I hope he gets plenty of support from his colleagues and the WA community for doing his job.

Also remember ... the cop can't possibly know whether or not the person has a mental illness at the time of the incident. All they know is that someone is coming at them with a weapon. It's all too easy to make judgement on the cops action later on when all of the facts come out.
If someone was about to stab your child, I bet you would want the cop to shoot to kill and you wouldn't give a crap if the person had a mental illness. I feel for the cop - I bet he didn't wake up thinking he was going to have to kill another human being that day (self defence or not).
Protect the community - not the criminal.

That's a real shame. A life sadly ended prematurely. Sure he stole a car and attacked a copper but I take no joy in the death of anyone.
