LCD's have problems with off angle viewing as well as native resolution. Better to wait for the new OCD screens comming this year, meanwhile you have to consider the size of the room and what you intend to watch as well as how deep are your pockets. Also several of the new systems will allow you to connect DVD, Video, SVideo, digital and computer graphics cards to the screen, so look for the features you want or need.

Lastly, if it's expensive ask for an in home demo, much better to judge from your own lounge chair.

Yeah same problem here. TV was $7500 ( heavly reduced ) now a simialr model is just under $3000 i think.

wouldn't even bother with rear projection :togo:
we recently purchased a plasma 106cm LG tv...very happy with it. Picture quality is brilliant.

Passed on the rear projection as unless you sit directly in front of it they are fairly crappy :

Maybe I'm just a greedy bastard, but I have 2 plasmas, one is a Samsung Standard Def with a High Def STB and the other is a Sony High Def with a High Def STB. Both pictures are outstanding but the High Def plasma is sensational. I have looked at LCD but to be honest I don't think they shapeup at all to plasmas. I previously had a rear projection TV, but compared to plasma they are crap. I know they talk about pixel dropout on the plasmas, but I have never heard of anyone who has experienced it. The Sony I bought has a 7 year warranty against pixel loss, so it doesn't worry me, I won't keep it that long.

Yeah, always thought that when I've seen them at pubs and clubs. Pity, because they're pretty cheap for the price...

Hey guys, catch up with the technology, get down to Harvey Norman or Retravision and take a look at the new DLP Rear projection. They have changed a lot from what they were, and now have up to 170 degree veiwing angle.

The best brands are Sony ( Grand Wega) or the toshiba - there is a Samsung and a LG - but you really do get what you paid for.

It is like comparing a 91 EB XR8 (like mine) and a new BA XR8 - there has been a huge change in the look and performance, but they are still both XR8's

We have a 122cm Samsung rear projection tv in the living room, great picture quality with the digital foxtel and the sound system is amazing but like mentioned you pay for quality. Aslo have a projector and glass screen for the big race, nothing beats watching life sized cars racing around the loungroom.

The old man just got given 2 42" plasma's, 2 complete pioneer dvd home theter systems and 2 packard bell computers to run it all. I'd certainly hate to have paid for it
