Finally some good news for steve.

Mr Taylor's shed at Forest Hill housed a 1971 Ford Falcon XY GTHO Phase III, one of the rarest and most expensive muscle cars in Australia, as well as a 1971 XYGT.

An electrical fire destroyed both the shed and the two cars.

Luckily the cars were insured and Mr Taylor has now purchased a replacement XYGT which, in its first outing, won the Classic Car section at the Floral Classic competition after the Carnival of Flowers parade at the weekend.

"I spotted the XYGT on the internet about two weeks after the fire," Mr Taylor said.

"The insurance came through no problem at all so I decided to go for it.

"Then on its first day out, it won a trophy at the Carnival."

Mr Taylor said his shed was being rebuilt while his second and more expensive car, the XY GTHO Phase III, is in the process of being rebuilt and restored.

"It has been stripped right down to a shell," he said.

"A lot of people will be glad to hear we're fixing it up because it's really an Australian icon.

"It will be a long road to get it rebuilt, but it's not a race so we'll just do it bit by bit," he said.

Do you think it would be the same after the fire 4Vman?

Happy for the bloke either way - wonder if he had a say in the matter?

Myself I would have asked for the money - i am not a mettalurgist so not too sure about a raging fire and the impact on metal

Without an id plate it may as well be a fake as who would pay thru the nose for one without it. I'm sure if I had one that I said was burnt, and rebuilt, with parts not off a HO who would believe me and pay hundreds of thousands. BTW where do you get genuine HO parts now????

I'd restore it aswell, why get rid of it, it was only a fire, it can still be rebuilt, wether they use repo gear or source hard to find part's, the vehicle is obviously a well known and authentic vehicle to those in the know, so it still is a GTHO. and that's all that matter's.

Correct, plate or not its 100% genuine. Just not in its original condition.

Good luck to the Gent concerned with the rebuild. I hope its as "good as new" when he gets it back. Would be a great project to watch. Does anyone know who is rebuilding it and if so would they be interested in sharing the journey with fellow GT enthusiasts ?

Thanks

Justin
