I am having trouble with some strange noise coming from the boot area when I break. Its an odd noise, and its not from something rolling around in the boot area but its sort of like a squishy noise at usually happens when I break at low speed.
I do have to go back to the dealer in about a week but thought I might be able to get a suggestion to what it could be ? |

Hi Heaps,
I doubt that the model or type is likely to be a factor because the vehicle shell, especially the floor pan are the same for all cars. It's only Oz that has differentiated the update moels, in Europe they are all Mk4 designation. But to the noise: If it tends to be more noticable in reverse, especially if you have the fuel tank close to full, it is probably fuel surge as you alter speed. There is a low frequency "squishy" noise in our car under those conditions that gets less noticable as the tank empties. Yes, it would be good if the tank had baffles to minimise the effect, but we have learned to live with it as it isn't a factor under normal driving. I doubt if the dealer can do anything, in fact I now do not notice it unless I'm backing out of the drive, which is slightly uphill, and I stop for traffic. Cheers

I get this noise too, but only with a full tank. It gets quieter as the level falls, so is of no concern.

Yes after really taking notice of it - it does happen when tank is fullish.

Yeah, dont stress about it. Ive got the same noise with my 2011 lw focus. Was worrying me but had ford check and they say its normal and related to fuel tank placement.

It's just the fuel sloshing around in the tank.

Initially I went looking throughout the car thinking there was a big drum of water in the boot hidden somewhere on the first day i got. Noise was driving me nuts.
