Walkinshaw has just raised the Australian performance bar with the launch of two supercharged W Series packages for the 6.0-litre Holden VF Commodores and 6.2-litre Gen-F HSVs. Both costing $18,990 fitted, the packages are named for their power outputs.
The W457 package for the 6.0-litre VF Commodore V8s will deliver 457kW at 5600rpm and 780Nm at 3700rpm -- a massive 187-197kW and 250-253Nm rise, with the torque peak also arriving 700rpm earlier. The W497 package for LS3 6.2-litre Gen-F HSVs gives you 497kW at 5560rpm and 955Nm at 3690rpm. Again, that's a considerable 157-180kW and 385-405Nm benefit over the standard models: the 317kW/550Nm Clubsport, 325kW/550Nm Maloo and 340kW/570Nm Grange and Senator Signature. Goodies in the packages include a WP230 supercharger package, large high flow injectors, Eaton Twin Vortices 2300 Series (TVS) Gen VI rotors, water to air intercooler package, custom moulded heater hoses, cast aluminium coil covers, unique Walkinshaw Performance injection moulded cold air intake package, heavy duty serpentine belt drive system, 12” long intake runners, custom moulded intercooler hoses, self-contained oil system, full stainless steel exhaust system -- including ceramic coated headers and high flow catalytic converters. You'll also get a full dyno tune from an authorised Walkinshaw Performance Centre, W Series Certificate of Authenticity and Vehicle Identification, and full drive line warranty for the balance of the manufacturer’s new vehicle warranty for eligible vehicles. Walkinshaw Performance general manager Tony Harris described the force-fed kits as the peak of local engineering and design. "The W Series has already seen the naturally aspirated W310 and W375 packages which offer terrific performance and value for money that we have developed thanks to the outstanding base vehicles -- the VF SS Commodore and the Gen-F HSV," he said. "Today we take another step with the W457 and W497 packages. These packages represent the pinnacle of Australian automotive design and engineering capabilities. "On power figures alone it's impressive, but as we always say; drivability is the number one goal and we believe that these W Series twins are exceedingly well mannered in this key area. That said, it's hard to hide the performance results and these cars are guaranteed to bring a smile to the face of every motoring enthusiast." "Back in 2004, the 297kw VZ ClubSport was rightly heralded as a significant development for HSV. At the time a journalist said it was "ferocious off the line" and that it brought "high-end performance within easier reach of more people". We see these packages offering similar- and yet so much more.” http://www.carsguide.com.au/news-and...ce?origin=hpc1

wow...with 400nm extra that's nearly doubling the power. crazy. Would seriously suck to be a W427 owner tho....these W cars will destroy any previous value they may have had coming....for sure. Would love to see some performance figures for these beasts.

Article doesnt mention, but are these kits engineered/ADR approved? Would hate to spend all that cash and get hassled by the fuzz.

Why the need for all this ridiculous power outputs these days? Bragging rights or to compensate for something else?

Not bad value really. Considering an SSV or redline can be had for circa 45-50k... Good bang for buck for under 65-70k!!
I don't think i'd do the upgrade on an R8 though... for that cost i'd go the GTS. |

Brakes would probably be okay for a while and driveline might stand some sort fo chance of have a reasonable amount of durability with 780 nm's. |

Great package, ADR approved, and Walkinshaw take over the warranty for the drivetrain from Holden/HSV with all installed kits. 51K for a SSV, 18K for the kit, 69K all up (still a fair bit of coin).
Looks way to much engine for the car, if people are complaining about the Miami getting traction, this can only be worse. I would still lean towards at 2014-2016 GT/XR8 (subject to a drive of course),

I think doing it to the redline would be the best bet... wider tyres from factory, bigger brakes etc... Would make a really nice package. Especially if you picked up a demo redline for sub 50k...

Personally I don't have a ceiling on power output (dollars aside). It's never enough! PS: I like the old Walkie's.

Just my opinions..
-The transmissions will not hold out for long. -The fuel tank will need enlarging, 25L/100km of 98 will hurt soon enough. -Being flogged on launch to the speed limit by some AWD turbo hatch will annoy. |

Meh. They're offering what they think (know) their customers want. The fact these options exist is still a pretty cool thing in itself. Who'd have thunk, 10 years ago, that 600+HP Daily-driven Holdens (and Fords). with driveline warranties, would be available?
Personally, if I were to go that route, I'd have to say a GTS as well. Purely because it's fast 'enough' as well as having all the durability built into it (so we've been told at least) Biases aside, if I were in the market for a high-powered Holden, I'd probably go talk to CSV or someone about an LS7 conversion Love the idea of a massive-cube, dry-sumped, high-revving small block. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qj1h75vA1Jw Last edited by Motorbreath310; 17-10-2013 at 02:10 PM. Good grunt.
500kw on their 6.2lt kit is circa 400 at the rears? A new car should give reasonable cost of operation at that level of tune if driven gently. Like any machine, stay up it 24/7 making maximum torque, and it will cost a lot to keep running perfectly. Good on Walkinshaw. They make good stuff.

I'm not rubbishing them, good on them for making an aftermarket business outside of their HSV interests but the truth is most of the stuff they sell is just rebadged product from other companies with an even bigger sticker price added.

lets face it it's just an aftermarket bolt on, big deal we aren't talking production cars here. anyone can build a high power bolt on kit with enough money.
at least FPV stuff is a factory built and engineered package . I know what I would rather for reliability and back up

That warranty would be worth nothing. As soon as they see you have been giving it a hard time its void. Pointless.

So you're saying they will give you bulk HP, yet if you use it they will void your warranty?
That makes about as much sense as an ejector seat in a helicopter!

By the time you buy a Clubsport R8 for around 70k plus the 20k for the kit you could get a GTS for the same price with its already beefed up driveline. The driveline warranty would void on these cars anyways as soon as you start using the car to its full potential.

Are these going to be as slow as the previous ****ingforsure modified Commodores. In the past they have run times barely faster than the stockers they are based on, because all they do is fry the tyres.

I still think these packs will hurt resale of the W427...as 90% of people will think these are more powerfull versions, simply because they are HSVs with the W number at the start and don't know any better. I could be wrong tho as im certainly not lookin at either EVER.
