Default You know you're getting old when...

A couple weeks ago i was off on 1 of my many 'nowhere in particular' drives through the hills when all of a sudden i had the urge to find a quiet no through road, flick the esc off and rip out a burnout, i chose the road, but before i could choose a spot i got distracted by the view, 10 minutes later i was on my way without disturbing the serenity, a few years ago i would've torn the serenity down and spat in its face.
I've never denied that I'm getting on in years ( my knees remind me daily ) but i didnt think i was that far gone, if you had of told me when i was just starting to drive that 1 day id prefer to sight of rolling hills to the sound of a turbo boosting, tyres screeching and smoke billowing, I'd probably have suggested that you find yourself an institution, the kind with comfy walls.

So there it is, i know im old because of that
Surely im not the only person thats had a reality moment like this?

(Doesnt mean im getting rid of the turbo btw)

I guess the only change for me is cringing a fraction more when watching films like Saw, Hostel, and alike.

Had my first back spasm 4 weeks ago, that was fun but recovered within 5 days

Having my first cold within 3 years.

Burnouts - Meh, can do easily so actually dont even try anymore unlike prior cars where they might do one.
Rather save the rubber then burn it up within a couple mins.

While the basic Ford Six was code named Barra, the Turbo version clearly deserved its very own moniker – again enter Gordon Barfield.
We asked him if the engine had actually been called “Seagull” and how that came about.
“Actually it was just call “Gull”, because I named it that. Because we knew it was going to poo on everything”.

An you can remember when there were no Pizza Huts, McDonalds, Hungry Jacks, KFC, Subways etc in the State and hamburgers at the local late night burger joint were made with two pieces of toast, a piece of steak and optional onions and beetroot.

When you can clearly remember the great wailing and nashing of teeth that accompanied the death of the Kingswood and the introduction of the Commodore. "It's too small!!!"..."It's based on one-a them funny Europeen cars!!!" (yes it was, the Opel Omega, but it was a lot wider). It was the end of the world!!! But then people drove them and realised you could actually turn a corner and stop nicely, and they were much better packaged than the "big" Kingswood.
Ford fans can't grin too much at that though...there was also cries of despair when the "huge" XC was replaced by the "little" XD...even thought the XD had the same room inside because of a slimmer body and thinner doors for example.

Also the second end of the world when Holden put the excellent Nissan RB30 engine into the Commodore. Again, complaints until people actually drove one.

Car size: for example, our house has an awkwardly placed post in the right hand garage, which means when you put the roller door up means you have to go close to the left edge of the roller door entry and watch the post on the right. I thought it was a "tight fit" with our "small" 1982 Celica. We then moved our old WB ute down there to the house, and the missus said "Put it under the house until we clear out the shed". I scoffed...it will never fit in that little space! but OK dear...I'll try...

I frigging hate it when wives are right...the damn thing fitted just fine, and here I was thinking it was "huge" compared to the Celica...
