Police say Heather Middleton, 40, and her two daughters, 11 and nine, went missing after she had a conversation a family member early yesterday afternoon, which left her family concerned for her and her daughters' wellbeing.

Shortly after the conversation Ms Middleton picked up her two daughters from their Windsor school and disappeared.

Police currently believe Ms Middleton may have either been travelling to Melbourne to see her parents, or to Gosford where she has friends.

Her mobile phone is off and there has been no contact since she picked her children up.

"We have fears for her safety and therefore fears for the safety of children," Inspector Gary Shoobridge from Windsor police said.

"We have some information that may suggest that we need to find her quickly ... we think that she may be upset at the moment."

Ms Middleton is believed to be driving a light blue 1996 EL Ford Falcon, registration QTG 630.
