Default Feeling backlash through the steering column

Hey guys

Just recently i've been noticing a backlash sensation through the front wheels, to me it feels like diff backlash, but I'm used to feeling that from the rear wheels in rear (read:correct) drive cars.

Whenever you take your foot off the throttle or clutch in, you can feel a distinct knocking/taking up slack feeling.

Now obviously it could be any number of things - bushes wearing out etc, but is there any sort of common fault that this is a sign of?

Cheers for any help guys

Aaron
