Camping spots in tassie.

Hey guys, looking to go over to tassie with the band and a few other mates to camp for a bit, just wondering if anyone knows some good sites?

Gonna be heading over in the Panelvan and a wagon, so no 4x4 spots, but we'd like some secluded areas where we can be by ourselves. Also really want some spots with a creek/small river/lake with good fishing spots (preferably would love to be able to fit a little dinghy on there to fish from).

Any help appreciated, trying to search the net but not much luck. We'll move around a little so any spots mentioned are appreciated.

Down the East Coast you might find a few spots down there. On the Freycinet(fray-z-nay) Peninsula. A lot of that is coastal but it's one of the most awesome places in the world.

Yay , Finally i can share some knowledge ..

If you Like Bushwalking , and real Nice Camping Areas , Mt.Feild National Park is Situated about 1hr North of Hobart , Its run by The National Parks Service , and has everything , Including Lady Baron Waterfalls and the Ice Lake (colder months)

Swansea is on the East Coast and is Awesome for Fishing , with a Few camping spots but is usually full because Orford Beach ( A Major Holiday Campground 2 meters from the beach) was closed as it was wrecking the area .

Bruny Island , In tasmanias Far South is Good for Camping , Fishing , Driving Everything .. You need to catch the Ferry , A Car is about $15 Each Way ..

If you have a rough idea what you want to do as well as camping , let me know , ill point you in the right direction , as im going back for a Long Weekend in July

Swansea is your best bet , Easy to get too , full of Facilitys and a strong Fishing Heritage ..

Or you Could try Bicheno or St.Helens , Both Very full of Tourists as there is a Sea-Change at the moment and people love living near the beach

Adventure Bay on Bruny Island is a very nice spot. Just on the beach front too.

Yeah East Coast FTW. West coast is nice but even more freezing than the rest of the state. IMO it would be more fun to find one spot, and then just drive in some randomish direction and find another.

Oh BTW, make sure you budget well for fuel, also not everywhere has LPG! I remember the first time I went down and tried to get some. Most servos thought I needed it for my BBQ...LOL

The Midlands Highway , Which Connects Devonport and Launceston to Hobart is Notorius for cars running out of Petrol and Gas , Especially at night , as there are few 24hr Servos and Most Close at 6.30pm

Anywhere in Tassie is Good , its Relaxing

yep anywhere down the east coast is beautiful, especially freycinet.

I have lived my whole life in Tassie - I think that Mt Field Natianl Park would take a lot of beating - it is sensational. There are a lot of places in the Huon Valley region as well that would suit especially if you want to go fishing in the dinghy on the Huon River. But if camping and getting away from it all are what you are after without needing a 4WD, then Mt Field is the way to go.

If you are after best of both worlds, Bruny Island would definitely have it all too. God, there are so many good choices out there. Glad to help on anything else if you need it.

Bring your thermals though.....it's going to be a cold winter.

I didn't know you lived down there. Where abouts? Im moving to Launceston in July. Need to rally the e series troops down there..LOL (XH is as good as an e series to me..LOL)

Fishing is Banned in some Parts of the Houn .. as of July 05 , Because of the Amount of fresh Water and Rainbow Trout being taken , Same with some parts of Bruny Island and West Coast due to the Abalone Thefts ...

Launceston is a Great Place to Live , You Have Carrick Speedway with the Sprint Cars and Super Sedans Every Weekend , you Have Lots of Road to Discover and some of the Best Winding Roads through the Hills to St.Helens ..

there is a 50km stretch of winding road that made me sick from all the cornering .. pretty hardcore !

Mt . Feild is where i will be staying in july , just because its in the dead middle of no where and , even though its populated by familys camping , animals of all shapes and sizes go about there buisness , i remember hearing possums and Kangaroos all night .. Plus there is a Massive River there from the waterfall with Yabbies , Freshwater Trout and More ..

best thing to do , go make your own trip .. if you get there and decide you want to go fishing the first day , the Devonport River or Ulverstone (5mins NW) Have good Beach and Rock Fishing , When i Came back off the boat last time , i caught 3 Flathead , 2 Rockfish and Seen 2 Stingrays all in about 1/2 , its Crazy how many Fish are there ..

In the Falcon , I Filled up at Devonport , Went Throught Launceston , to Campbell Town , Stopped for Lunch , Drove to Hobart and with the Cruise control on a Modest 125k/ph only used 1/4 of a Tank of Fuel .. There are a Few things people like to stop and see on the Midlands , Simmons Plains do Tours , Tarmack ACDelco Dragway , Salmon Ponds Fish Hatchery , Ross and Oatlands (Small Towns , First Settled) ..

Hobart is Not bad itself , Going through the Old Goal , Richmond where you can visit some More Awesome Roads , heading down the Coast towards Port Arthur , Beach fishing is not Bad , But the East Coast Is Packed for Fishing , Summer or Winter , Lots of Small Craft bringing in Lots of Fish ...

I live in tassie and when i go camping i go either to weymouth, badger head, or bellingham, all of these spots are non 4wd friendly.

A nice spot we stayed many years ago was Fortesque Bay... Facilities were adequate and the fishing was great...

Whats the go with fishing in tassie? As in limits for catching etc. We'd only be planning on catching and cooking a few every couple nights for tea, the rest would be put back of course. From reading, trout seems to be the main fish in the waterways over there, any others for good eating?

We caught some pike in the kelp beds near Bicheno... Used a redfin lure and bagged a dozen in about 25 mins... They were good eating...

havent been there in a while as I live in Sydney now, but a great spot I used to go to was near Swansea... Head along the road to seven/nine mile beach (not sure which one it is) keep going right to the end of the road... Theres a turning bay, with a track down onto the foreshore area.. its across a river from a little place called Swannick... when you go down the track, head right, and theres some nice areas to camp in amongst the bush.. All for free unless things have changed.
Right at the mouth of a river, great fishing spot.. plenty of Flathead, Bream, and Atlantic Salmon.. can head out into Freycinet Bay with a boat, day trips to Freycinet itself, Bicheno, or Swansea.
One thing though.. no facilities, ie running water, toilet, shower.. so take a shovel for the six foot long drop dunny.. and plenty of food.

I live in launnie, Bridport on the NE coast is one of my picks, nice beach, caravan park, golf course, pub. Go a little further along the coast to Tomahawk, more remote, still nice beach. Or swimcart beach in the Bay of Fires, just out of St Helens is tops for camping and fishing too!

Swanwick is where my dad has a shack and stuff. His father in law built the golf course there, well had a fair bit to do with it. been there plenty of times and have caught salmon on a basic halco lure in the arfternoon sun at the mouth of the swan.

Coles bay is good, and if you like a bit of walk you can go to the top of Mt.
Amos or over "the saddle" to wineglass bay.

My old man also owns a shop in Launceston which some of you may know.

plenty of big atlantic salmon around dover and places like that every year we go there and get about 20+ all over 2kg we have a boat there but you should be able to use spinners off the beach to get some.
