Default mk1 escort questions

1) Is it legal in victoria to put the mk2 2L in the mk1 escort?
2) Does the auto gearbox off the mk1 1300 bolt up to the mk2 2L?
3) Can you still get the window seals for the mk1 coupes, if so, where are the best places to buy them?
Thanks.

From memory YES the 1300 mk1 auto box will bolt up to your 2L pinto. bell housing will meet up etc. Not too sure about in VIC but it is legal over here in WA it just needs to be complied. Compliance is need when up grading to a motor with a capicity exceeding 25% of your old motor (BUT CHECK FIRST) If you were gonna get some seals, try Rare Spares they always seem to have everything ive ever need for my escorts. Or you could try make your own, Clark Rubber have been vey useful.

Hope this helps

Its legal to put a 2lt into a Mk 1 Escort, but I'd recommend you upgrade the struts, including discs, calipers etc to Mk 2 spec. Get some out of a Mk 2 van and they are pretty much a bolt in job...swap the steering rack over as well.

Don't bother with the old BW35 Auto. Try and get a C3 box out of a later Escort. They are much better, you can still get inhibitor switches for them and you don't lose as much power as you do with the BW35. Personally, I'd ditch the auto as the 2.0lt really needs a manual to get the best out of it.

Rare Spares do sells window seals but they aren't cheap. Someone told me they get them from a place call Old Scotts Rubber who are marginally cheaper and don't give you a smart- look when you mention you own an Escort. You can find both on the net.

Just to clarify, the 2L pinto that has been mentioned is the 2L that has the single overhead cam as found in cortinas and Mk2 escorts.

And are the engine mounts and so forth the same between the Mk1 and Mk2, will the 2L pretty much just bolt in the 1300 place.
