Are these things expensive? I have seatbelts in my car from a newer model, and I need an engineers report to say its ok. It sounds small and im sure it will be, but whats the process of getting the report? Thanks for any help.

go to the RTA site theres a list of certified engineers jsut pic a sutibal one form the list, be a little careful though if the rumer and BS is true there are new ruels now where the engineer you start with is the one you finish with.
Its never been my practise but i have heard of people taking a car to one engineer geting it knocked then shoping it arround to others till they get it passed or less of a list to fix. I beleive now that if an engineer nocks a car now they must lodge a failure notice with the RTA simular to a white slip on your normal rego.

Its not what theyll knock back or fiddle around with since the car is stock (apart from seatbelts), just the price / process of how long it will take that im most concerned about.

AFAIK if you are using factory anchor points you don't need engineering cert providing the seatbelts are the same basic type ( lap/sash or just lap etc)

They were laps, but now they're retractable s from some 78 model ford. Is it generally expensive though to get the report?

I just dropped one of my cars off for a VASS inspection at Engineers today. I've been told to expect over $1200 for final signoff, so even the simplest things (like seatbelt inspection) will probably cost you quite a few hundred dollars ..

I had to get one done on my hj monaro a bout 6 years ago for a 9" diff & sparco racing seats & it was around $350 i think. They go over the whole car tho, not just what you need signed off (the one who did my car did anyway).

if its just for seat belts what about those fitting stations you see about for babey seats they fit up new mounts etc so they sould be certified in such things?

Wont be too hard or expensive just for what you want,when you get into serious modifications it gets real expensive real fast.
A couple in south Sydney to try are consulmotive in Peakhurst I think? and TIC in kirrawee (9545 0823).. On a list I have,seatbelts are $80 and the inspection and filing fee is $320.. |
