Default What is it with the type of people these cars draw?

I am so fed up with selling car parts on ebay and gumtree. I just reluctantly let go a 480 set of pedders shocks for a mere 135 and now I have the bogan from Horsham region hassling me for a refund because as far as he's concerned my shocks are apparently too "soft", when they're flipping practically brand new! Almost everyone who has bought a part off me and had it posted to them in this region has had at least some sort of problem.. last one was an 20yr old entire ef wheel with cruise and airbag for $15... too much wear apparently had twists in it :S.

It's been the same thing with people who buy E series crap, they either waste your time never being punctual for the 20 dollar part they want to waste your evening for. Or expect everything to be brand new for 20% of retail price. With my shocks this guy has simply pushed them in with his hand and come to his own view they're leaking oil and the gas has leaked out Asked him to confirm and he has a sook over them being to "soft" he's been mechanic for 35yrs blah blah, typo's and illiterate grammar everywhere (the whole package basically). And turns out they're not actually leaking oil or gas... he just thinks they have because they feel to soft when he depresses them by hand bogan style!!! They're practically brand freakin new, luckily I don't care and put no returns and have all his lies documented in the dispute for legal purposes. But that's it even for 135 for one item dealing with people like this is beyond unsavoury.

To them it's like people are merely avenues to get everything for free off (too many beggars as well). I don't even have the nerve to call someone up and ask for a $5 headlight switch... I pay them $20 or buy another item because I understand they don't live to serve me... These bogans actually expect people to bend over this much for them? Sell a test certificate with my shocks? Wait around 2hrs for someone to pick up a 5 dollar item that never ends up coming... it has to be the worst type of consumer out of all of them! It just angers me thinking of how much time today I've already wasted on this idiot, told him to take them to a real mechanic and stop wasting my time.

Unfortunately with selling spare parts or anything second hand you will have umpteen amounts of time wasters and tyre kickers. You have every right to feel annoyed by these idiots who buy a second hand product knowing it was second hand and not checking it before purchase.

I would recommend you put a disclaimer stating you do not provide any warranty for any parts purchased if you say they are second hand and buyer to inspect at own risk. At least then, they have been duly warned and if they are happy to hand over the coin, then they must be happy with the product at the time of purchase.

I sold a modified dome light for a VT VX Commodore in which in my listing stated was modified by me.
Had additional led strips in them

Guy was from Melbourne, lol, and stupidly left me positive feedback but said was the worst thing he had ever bought and was done in a backyard.

Wrote a email back to him and literally nicely laid it down straight how its modified, blah blah and works 100%

Put it down to him being a dumb idiot or someone just wanting to defame me.

Anyway
Sell on eBay and post most things.
If pickup needed, then pray for the best.

Also use second chance offer if auction

My missus is forever selling $5-15 crap on gumtree/ebay. She enjoys doing it (obviously doesn't do it for the $$$ haha) but some people are just weird.

She recently sold some trolls (those miny toys with boofy hair) - * of them for $5.

This guy wanted them and probably sent 20 msgs to my missus asking al sorts of questions, including can you deliver them to me place coz I don't have a car. WTF??

I always put NO SMS at the bottom of all my ads and if they still sms I just ignore it. Seems to sort out most of the idiots if they need to talk to you directly.

You either want to sell something or you dont.

Find it odd complaining about a system that helps you move on stuff, you get cash, and the site doesnt charge you?

Ive bought a fair bit of stuff off gumtree and damn straight I low ball....with respect of course. If your selling something you no longer want it, its up to you to work out how much it isnt worth to you.

As for warranty or refunds, surely there is something in gumtree's fine print that avoids all that.

I've used eBay to sell a lot of car and bike stuff with prices ranging from a couple of dollars too a few thousand.
Overwhelmingly I've had positive experiences.
I operate under a few self imposed rules;
I only Auction stuff
I put the absolute lowest price I can bear to let it go at.
I write up a very descriptive add with heaps of pictures (you can never have to many pics).

Doing the above means I very rarely get any questions and by having a low starting price it creates heaps of interest and I usually get well above what I expected dollar wise.

When I buy off eBay nothing sh!ts me more than one line adds and 1 dodgy photo and then the seller gets angry cause you want more info!

Is there a standard template to use with ebay when selling items? Like does it have a checklist to go thru so you can write down everything necessary?

Same thing with Carsales, someone is trying to sell a $20,000 car with 2 pictures they took with a Gameboy Color camera and the only writeup being "GOOD CAR BUY NOW!"

Detailed description and photos is the key.

That being said I bought a Cummins 6BT sight unseen from Adelaide once with no pictures for $1750.

With that writeup how could you refuse

I think some people are just either lazy or incompetent. It's not difficult to spend the time to describe your item for sale for the best possible result.

That said, Ive often read on ads, no time wasters/tyre kickers etc. Do you find this is a good thing or can it go against the sale?

This is the reason I never sell anything. I'd rather throw things away or give them away to friends and family. Ebay, second hand sales, garage sales etc brings out the grubbiest, scabbiest people that want everything for nothing.

"I see you want 10 cents for this item....will you take 5 cents? I'll happily buy it for 5 cents but 10 cents is just too steep...."

Its like people going overseas and go to markets to haggle with some poor dude to screw him out of 50 cents on something that costs $1.75.

and what with the ebay fees its not worth the complete headaches

i really think the for sale sections in here could be huge
no matter if its car items or not
why sell thru the bay or tree when you could sell it thru here?
i check the for sale area reg and for the amount of members this site has id expect it to be twice as large tbh
give the bay and tree the flick and get selling on AFF

I would have thought if you are selling parts for a car that is popular with bogans that you would expect a fair share of bogans wanting to get those parts. And I'm not saying that only bogans own E series cars just there are quite a few that do.

The internet has many good attributes including that you can reach a wider audience and it is convenient but that also extends to those you'd prefer to have no dealings with. There really is nothing you can do about it though.

I very seldom get timewasters on gumtree and i live in gosnells wa lol,the best suburb in perth bahahaha.
I prepare myself to deal with utter timewasting tossers and if it turns out good, then thats awesome!
To the op,maybe you live in a bogan infested area, have to admit,%90 of e series still on the road are absolute crap deathtraps.
Some e series are in great condition like some of the ones owned by people on ford forums but most are ready for the rubbish tip, like the owners...
Dont think im a hater either, ive owned my eb for nearly 10 years!

I only use Ebay Or Gumtree to buy stuff. I never sell anything as I just couldn’t be f@$%#d dealing with people. Over time I find people who may need some of the things that I have and if they come across as decent people, I simply just give the parts to them, regardless of what they cost me.

I purchased my latest Trans Am from a bloke on Gumtree. The car needed a bit of work and wasn’t exactly what I was after but it was worth checking out anyway.

I decided against it and after we talked for a while about cars in general, he asked me what I would offer for it. I put a figure forward and he accepted it.

But there’s two golden rules I follow when looking at cars.

1. Always have someone drive me there.
2. Have the cash in my pocket (regardless of the amount) so I can take it there and then if I like it.

That doesn't make sense. You would rather take your time up going to the tip, putting more rubbish into the system and pay the entry fee than drop your price so the item is reused and you save time/ money and get a little cash back?

Yep, not worth the hassle & wasted time stuffing around with people who might show up & always haggling prices.

Don't get me wrong, I will try friends & family 1st to get the word out.

100% agree

Im only a small time seller, car parts and household items. Nothing major

With ebays free 30 listings and free relisting, makes it easier.

Did a check on my seller dashboard thingy and looks like I have sold items totaling $13,008.34 AUD since 2004.

So to me, worth the hassle

Default Re: What is it with the type of people these cars draw?

Ebay and gumtree are a walk in the park compared to those buy/sell/swap pages on facebook. have been stuffed around a few times trying to buy stuff from those groups (Eseries pages mostly).
1st one was buying a EF Fairmont, made the guy a reasonable offer that he accepted so I arranged a mate with a trailer to pick it up (don't care how nice they say it runs and drives its going on a trailer) Then got the usual wouldn't answer my phone calls or messages, Then to get a text the morning we were going to pick it up saying some guy offered $100 more so he sold it to him. (after we had already made a deal)
2nd time was an EF xr6, this car was something i'd been looking to buy for quite a while it ticked all the boxes. asked the seller heaps of questions about its condition, So given what he was asking for it and how it was described Me and a mate set off to go look at it (with a trailer) got there and it was the biggest pile of junk EF i'd seen since my old XR8. after struggling to get the bonnet open found out it had a bent radiator support. Strike 1. It was a strong runner apparently. needed a jump start and coolant was leaking from the head gasket out the side of the engine. Strike 2. Then asked the seller about another item on the car that was working but now isn't (after he did something with the electrics) Strike 3. was polite enough saying thanks for taking the time but I'd have to walk away on this one.

lesson of the story/rant is that when dealing with cheap cars that aren't looked after very well be prepared to deal with someone that would have a car like that.
I'm not having a dig at Eseries owners (I am one and probably always will be and have met some great people and made a few good friends with them) its just the experiences i've had buying and selling them haven't been the most positive.

At least I've had far more good then bad experiences. but I now have a few guidelines/rules with buying stuff online/sight unseen.

Have another person with you when going to look at or pick up a car or item.
Bring a trailer if you haven't previously looked at the car
3 strike rule, if three or more things make you stop and think hang on something is odd here when buying cars, parts or pretty much anything really just walk away.. unless its something you really want and think it'll be worth it in the end haha.
Always be direct and honest when Buying or selling something. No one likes to be stuffed around no matter what side of the deal their on.

cheers

To the op,maybe you live in a bogan infested area, have to admit,%90 of e series still on the road are absolute crap deathtraps.
Some e series are in great condition like some of the ones owned by people on ford forums but most are ready for the rubbish tip, like the owners...
Dont think im a hater either, ive owned my eb for nearly 10 years!
You don't need to live in bogan infested areas to get your fair share of tossers wanting to pay $5 for something advertised at $30 which is worth $80. Some bloke recently offered me a stupidly low price for something I was selling on the local buy, swap, sell. I said for that price he can come around a watch me happily burn it in front of him.

Even the professionals must get jack of customers stupid questions, there are a few car dealers in Adelaide who put the following lines in ALL of their ads:
"Only call me about this car if you can look at it TODAY or TOMORROW"
"Carefully read ALL of the cars description before enquiring"
Ive even seen one " this car is located x hours away from Adelaide, only enquire if you are able to travel here"
