Water Detected in Fuel...worry?

I bet the vast majority (me included) of diesel owners are more likely to notice a warning on dash than anything under the hood, so Id say they're setup to avoid failure.

The issue now is the complexity and cost of the system. I wonder how frequent water sensor failure is and how much they cost to replace??

cheers. hard to tell from that pic where I'm looking at. I think it's the same location as V8kado's pic (taken from right side instead of left).

I haven't found much on more recent MC's, but I did see that Ryco lists 2 filters for MC tdci (before and after 04/12).

It's the same as V8kado's. I posted the pics on talkford (I'm out of data allocation for pics here).

So per Ryco the filter is different after 04/12. Should be easy to spot, canister with fuel lines and electrical connector about the size of a jar of pickled onions. Could have migrated to the left side.

My Haynes manual (2012) says:

1.8 litre engines
The fuel filter is located at the left-hand end of the cylinder head. To gain access, remove the plastic cover on the top of the engine.

2.0 litre engines
The fuel filter is located under the rear of the car, behind the fuel tank.

We all have 2.0s, but maybe it could be in the position for the 1.8?

I think it's moved to forward of fuel tank now. (See first photo I posted on 27/4, which is looking from right rear to left front) . Obstructed by heat shield and centre of car so pretty tough to access without lifting the car.

That's a very different engine to the earlier models!

Was looking at that with a mate. He thought it was the fuel pump??? Would be a ***** to drain if it is the filter.

Looks like a filter to me.

The fuel pump is driven directly off the exhaust camshaft on RHS, all metal, lots of pressure.

I'm guessing the oil filter is where it was before, which makes it underneath the filter?

I think, where the oil filler is, you can unclip this long pipe.
Underneath you'll see a round object with a nut on top (all black plastic)

This is where the oil filter is. A real s__t to get to if you ask me!!

I understand that these days people would prefer to get a message indicating an issue but as far as i'm concerned, who then has the time to book their car into their mechanic to drain the water?
Also, what tolerances have Ford put into the system before you suck this water through your system causing massive bills?

A simple glass/plastic indicator/bowl, with drain on bottom, could have been placed in the wheel arch (behind a flap). A simple message could be written in the manual telling you to check every month.

If someone could upload a pic of one of the earlier engines with the cover clipped off I would be grateful. I understand the oil filter was to the right of the filler cap but I couldn't see it anywhere. I googled some images and found that the earlier ones had a filter underneath near the bottom of the radiator - I didn't notice it there when I pulled the splash shield off but I was distracted by an slight oil leak from my transmission.

Yes, Ford and PSA share their diesel engines. The Mondeo diesels are made by PSA in France, and the V6 engines are made at Dagenham in England.

Found It (oil filter) !!

Hiding behind the filler tube, and almost under the fuel filter. I had to unclip the filler tube and lay it out of the way to get to the filter. Not sure how I will go changing it but I will find out in a couple of weeks.
