All this focus on unleaded... Meanwhile acrid, stinky, carcinogenic thick black sooty diesel emissions are growing in our traffic and along our streets with the explosion in SUV and dual cab sales.
Mandate diesel particulate filters to all diesels and we will all be better off. |

What a load of poppycock!
If the manufacturers can't meet emissions then mandate that the cars run on 95 or 98. Once again the FCAI has shown us how anti-consumer they are.

They need the lower sulphur levels to reduce emissions. Fair enough.
The sooner they stop selling 91 and make 95 the new entry point the better IMO. But not at their current ridiculous mark up. Just the 2c a litre in extra refining it reportedly costs to make 95 over 91. |

'Standard' in the UK is 95RON (and probably 10ppm sulphur as opposed to our 50).
I remember the late Bill Tuckey moaning about the death of the engine when it went unleaded. He couldn't have been more wrong.

If a manufacturer can meet emissions laws without then its the better way to go.

The basic Diesel engine used to be long living and ruggedly reliable........not anymore.
Emissions regulations have killed it as an 'economy' choice.

I'm currently in the UK on holidays and the fuel bowsers only have two options, diesel and petrol. I'm not sure what the ratings are but the make up of cars running diesels is about 90% to 10% running petrol. Obviously the better fuel consumption matters over here. I really haven't seen too many cars spewing black soot out the back either if I'm honest so I don't know how many are running DPF's. The cost would kill ya though. I'm paying about 1 pound 10 pence per litre. Now based on current exchange rates, that is about $2.20 per litre! OUCH!! Anyhow, I think they do need to do something about our crappy fuels and bring us up to speed with the rest of the world so that the manufacturers can bring over to us the better engines. I have heard for a long time that we miss out on certain types of engines due to our fuel. Just my opinion, of course!

Our oil that is pumped out of the ground around Australia mainly has more sulphur than other parts of the world.
We are becoming a 3rd world nation, we are on the path set not even to have the ability to make any petrol in the future, not to mention cars or anything even down to soap or even milk, now that's under attack to destroy that as well. |
