now the prissy lancer gli boys won't need to put aftermarket media and kit on it - as it's already got it!
GPS and DVD player are US only, we don't have that over here.
The Rockford Fosgate audio system is great though, and the other features are good.
Voice activated bluetooth, smart (proximity) key entry, rain sensing wipers, auto headlamps, 18" allloys, climate control, 7 airbags and stability control, 6CD MP3 with ipod connector all standard on VRX - you need to pay for the Rockford Fosgate. No leather at all though, which is strange. You do get the 10 year powertrain warranty though.

Either way it's a good value car, but it's yet to really take off. In my opinion it's still missed the market a bit - we don't really have the brand cred to take mazda 3 head to head, existing lancer customers can't see the value in a drop from 2.4 to 2.0L with a 4 grand price increase, and it's not boring enough for Corolla buyers.
It's struggling to get strong market traction, but it will get there.

And re:WRX it's so far being the most successful WRX launch yet - they can't get enough to match demand - Subaru have decided the people that don't like the conservative styling probably weren't the type of person that would have bought a new one anyway. They don't care about rice heroes, executive is where the money is.

I dunno about that. I think the new Lancer is more Mazda 6 sized than the Mondeo. Mondeo is pretty much as big as a Falcon.

Mondeo

Overall length 4844
Overall width 1886
Overall height 1500

Falcon

Overall length 4930
Overall width 1864
Overall height 1444

Lancer

Overall lenght 4570
Overall width 1760
Overall Height 1490

Mazda 6

Overall length 4670
Overall width 1780
Overall height 1435

You can give all the dimensions you like, the mondeo will be classed with the lancer. 380/Falcon/commy/Aurion are all large; last time I checked anyway.

The new Lancer is much like the new Corolla Sedan, Much bigger than any of the models before hand, At the same time so is the new Mondeo and If the Much Bigger VE commonwhore is anything to go by the Orion will be much bigger too. Guess What the new Mazda 6 due next year, also gotten bigger.

Notice anything here?? Nearly all new models get bigger, some more so than others. Heck, both the new Lancer and the new Corolla (Sedan) have both grown substantially with the new models, both are bigger than their respective big brothers once were (Camry and Magna).

Buy the way if I was in the market for a small/ medium car, I definitely would go the Lancer VRX, but most people seem to head straight for the Corolla, to be Honest it could be a previous generation Hyundai Elantra, if it had a Toyota Corolla badge on it wouldn't sell any less than it does the way it is now.

the mondeo is 8 1/2 cm shorter, but taller and wider than a falcon. Thats pretty large.

Mondeo is classed as a medium car in terms of official segmentation, i.e. against Holden Epica, Honda Accord Euro, Mazda6, Subaru Liberty, etc.

yay and nay. mostly nay since short *** cars just dont appeal to me as something I would buy and enjoy looking at all day. Every Falcon looks better just because they are longer and probably all lower too.
otherwise guess its fine.

... for a chicks car. :

I reckon the evo's look fantastic and will have it all over the wrx's. saw them at the motor show. front ends look great (reminds me a little of a mustang look actually).

Anyone know what they will be retailing for?

I'd say the Soft Evo will sell for the same as the old one, about 57, and the harder version will probably be 65.

8.6cm shorter but wider and taller, perhaps it shouldn't be in a different official class? (when it comes to physical size anyway)

I was referring more to Polyal suggesting it wasn't a large car.

the new lancers are great. the rev freely, arent really slow and the just wanna hung on hard threw the corners. I have only driven the ES in auto and if i had the money and was in the market the new lancer would be the car i would get. Also when you drive the lancer and corolla back to back the rolla is boring and seems to have less interior room the previous models even though its bigger

It will still be referred to as a medium car, just a large medium car. :

I think Lancer will still be classed as a small car, it's just bigger than most small cars. When you look at price, equipment, performance, engines, it stacks up perfectly with Civic, Corolla, Tiida, Focus, 3, etc.

Same goes for the Mondeo. it will still be classed as a Medium Car. It's bigger than most of it's competition, but price, equipment, performance etc. says otherwise.

It’s a heavy little sucker for a “small” car, this can’t be helped with the Outlander platform that it’s using.

Mitsubishi (and a lot of others) are trying to get away from the bargain basement end of the market because the Chinese and Indians are coming and the Koreans are getting better.

Ford Focus CL Manual Sedan - 1282kgs.

Mondeo LX Manual Sedan - 1537kgs

Mazda 6 Manual Sedan - 1353kgs

Mazda 3 Neo Manual Sedan - 1250kgs

Toyota Corolla Ascent Manual Sedan - 1220kgs

Mitsubishi Lancer ES Manual Sedan - 1305kgs.

I wouldn't say it's heavy by any means. I would say the Mondeo is heavy. The XR5 Mondeo is 1604kgs and FWD. That's heavier than my Ralliart Magna by almost 100kgs, and is almost as heavy as a Mitsubishi 380.

Anyway, that's not the point. I've seen quite a few of the new Lancers getting around now. Saw a blue ES model yesterday with aftermarket rims on it - very smart looking car, and the colour blue looks really cool IRL.

It's not a bad car, a mate had one around last night and the vrx has a lot of features and looks very classy for its price. The voice recognition would be handy once all set up, although the Mondeo goes one step further with it allowing control over nearly all interior functions.

That's been designed for two reasons.
1) The slant front contains a crash box to stop the monocoque body from getting destroyed in a minor front end impact
2) Designed to roll a pedestrian onto the bonnet to minimise harm in a collision

All part of their bid for a 5 star safety rating.

And re: IS250 - it's also RWD and V6, adds a little to the weight :p.

Yeah that would add some weight, but then look at the small rwd cars of the early 90s - 318is etc, I dont think they would be getting up near the 1500kg mark. Although, as said, its loaded with goodies, 8 airbags etc.
