FGX - I think the current restrictions have people like you in mind.
It allows those who want to go to the event to sit down and watch the racing with a few brews to go and do so, but makes it difficult for those who go there for an outright ****-up.

If people want to go out and get plastered, its up to them. But when people feel unsafe about attending an event, then the line has been crossed - and people do avoid the top of the mountain because of the reputation it has.
So, the powers that be need to be seen to be doing something. It may not be changing any behaviours, but if this is what it takes for people to feel safe enough to take their families to the top of the hill then it has to be done.

Just a little OT ..... where is the best place apart from my lounge to watch. XR8TeddyBear & I have a 4day+pit pass for this & I have no idea where to get the best and safest vantage point

I have just received clarification from V8 Supercar Events on what we can and can't do....
yes we can take one slab into the "campgrounds", each day....

the following is a direct extract from their email regarding taking drinks to the area you wish to watch the track from...

"Yes there has been some confusion over this issue. I have had it cleared up however and the verdict is that you are not allowed to take your own alcohol into the viewing areas but you will be able to buy alcohol in there."

So it appears that not much, if anything, has changed from last year.......!!

yep same as last ,and i will add that the mountain is only silly at night .many people infact thousands go for a bus ride up daily ,elderly ,kids etc .my wife went up with her friend ,while we did the photo rounds etc . i think in stead of targeting the grog just be more in volved [police] frequent the bad camps and have a chat with em .most u would agree would stop the rot if the presence at the gate got around a bit more.they came past our camp which was over several sites ,we were being social not stupid .add what these actual idiots can drink at the bar then drinking there slab would be a good session ,its not as bad as people make out .and im not stoping from drinking at night away from the circuit and families.i never have drank much during the day .the limit is fine just get rid of the clowns and it would be better.

I agree Vanman. The only bit that annoys me is having to put my hand in my pocket and buy a drink in there. Makes for a very expensive weekend.
As for police, I camp in Max Cameron and like you, over several sites. I saw the police come past last year in a line of 6 with leather gloves on etc. More intimidating than anything else. I would have thought it better if they actually drop in to a site every now and then for a chat and a coffee.
so the question has to be asked..... What was reviewed from last year....., and what has changed or been implemented for this year......?????

The dipper last year was interesting - there is a viewing area on drivers right that extends from the esses, through the dipper all the way down to the elbow.

From what I could see, the crowds there seemed to be pretty good.

Having camped at McPhillamy for over 10 years i must say that years police presence was overkill but if you dont carry on like a pork chop you have nothing to worry about . McPhillamy is now more family friendly than it was just a few years ago and is nothing like Reid or Sulman (not everybody on the top is ferral) I agree with vanman and get rid of the clowns so if the limit helps to do that then it's working . after all we all go there to enjoy ourselves and if some want to do that by getting legless for a week then do it but have some respect for the other campers and spectators .

Lets just hope they can get the campers into the campgrounds a bit more efficiently this year.... We were in the line up for well over an hour last year.... And if a sniffer dog jumps up onto my rear bumper bar again.....!!!!!
I'm all for a good time and weeding out the idiots in order to retain this iconic event.

You do realise it wasn't Boonie who did the drinking. It was a myth for Boonie, I think it was Thomspon, but boony came clean about it.

Thats true, I've read an interview with Boony and he states that the so called record was nothing but myth, and would most likely have resulted in death if it was true.
