Drive away that include on road costs. What do you think the Prado costs driveaway? It's over 90,000 for the Kakadu

No peace offering required, I was just referring to the difference between the pricing in bevstas post 51(rrp plus on roads) and your post 60,(drive away) and the big discrepancy between the two.

Latest Wheels has a Prado v Everest comparison.
Everest is 2 seconds quicker to 100kmh than the Toyota, despite the fact its listed as being heavier.

Hey Russ are you reading this ?
So let me start with good news: it is with great pleasure that I can report sighting more Everests in the past two weeks than ever before. Last week I saw 3 Everests and today I have seen even more Everests ! Sadly all of the Everests are sitting unsold in Tweed Heads Ford car yard. BTW, last week when I spoke to the young sales guy he indicated the Everest Titanium had been on the yard for some time. I should be back down at the Tweed next week and will report on Everest progress. |

As per my post above top spec Everest is equivalent to 2nd top spec Prado.
i.e. Titanium vs VX across the range what the Everest has over the Prado is power and Towing capacity. I like the Ford, but for the same money or less, money most people will still Buy Prado.

Calling the Everest a 4X4 is a long stretch. It is a SUV. A soft roader. It does have some good features like rear diff locking but it is still not a real 4X4. It may sound picky but there are a lot of places I would not take this SUV. It seems wrong to be putting the Everest and the Prado in the same sentence. Even though the Prado is only "just" a 4X4 it is quite a bit more capable than the Everest.
I hope no-one buys the Everest to do serious off road adventuring...

I feel that its closer to a 4x4 than a soft roader though. Body on frame, solid rear axil, terrain response system ect.

Not that my Everest will do much serious 4 wheel driving. But I must have gotten a real special limited edition one, a whisker more ground cleatance than a Prado and low range, who'da thought

Has 100mm more wading depth too. If anything the Everest looks like its better suited for offroad. The comparison posted above said they both went everywhere.

i just clicked on the 4 X 4 Ute comparison on the bottom of the link page i see the Colorado finished 8th overall, we have had so much trouble with them at work all have gone back for rear suspension bushes cracked (they have put the shackle through the rubber bushes without metal sleeves so the shackle just tears the rubber to bits and ends up hitting the spring ) ,11 have gone back for Diff pinion seal leaks, all are using a great amount of oil some 1,400 Kms Per Litre ( Synthetic Oil expensive)we have had 2 with rear engine seal leaks and 2 with batteries melting and that is on top of the recalls all these vehicles have done between 1,500 Kms to 30,000 Kms only and Diesel engines.

I searched thru the ford site and there is no mention of low range on the Everest. It talks about locking 1st gear but that is far from real low range.
Bring your everest up the where I live (The Alice) I bet you would be stuck within 10 minutes just getting to where we walk our dogs.

But it only works in first gear.... According to the ford site.
Jeeez all I am saying is that the Everest in NOT a fully optioned 4X4 and it is very unusual that it has won a 4X4 OTY award. If anything it should have got SUV of the year. Even ford place it in the SUV category. 1st gear only low range is a very limiting factor. Anyone that has done some off roading will know why!!

And in small print add - 'This not really a 4x4 - this is just an SUV'. |

Rightly or wrongly, people wont take it seriously as a 4x4 until they start seeing them in the bush with regularity (and Prados are a dime a dozen now), but at the price Ford are asking, it's not going to happen anytime soon. |

Whats wrong about it. I do own a 4wd and used to go a bit. Low range is really only used when you are going slow through heavy terrain. The whole point of it is torque. Its too slow apart from that. Its like riding a bike in low gear.
As for that vid you posted above can you show us a any modern day car getting treated like that. I will admit that an old Patrol or Cruiser is ideal for serious offroading but most people dont go that extreme and Prados aren't in the same category. I doubt anyone is going to spend 80k and submerge the thing to its windscreen. |
