This thread is centered around the Rudd Government's second attempt at an economic stimulus package, not tax cuts to individuals or small business. This package is coming from borrowed money, the Government is not contracting Government spending to return tax dollars back into the economy. |

The really sad thing is elections are decided on peoples "interpretation" of these things, regardless of how wildly ill informed their take on it is.

I cant see the why some people on here who own their own business are whinging about the $900 'handout'
I tend to see it from both sides. I'm a wage earner and my wife has her own business, and like most small business's in this area she is hoping that the $900 will be spent locally. This obviously wont happen with everyone who gets it, but if some people do, local stores will be able to keep up their profit margins and not have to layoff staff.

A long term solution is also needed, such as redmund's idea to decrease our reliance on importing of goods and increase our own local manufacturing and as well as many other ideas to increase our own stability and independence. But that will be a long way off from taking effect unfortunately.
