These blokes are saying the F6 was "laggy".
I simply can not relate to that. The thing is anything but laggy. It has traction issues which prevents it from getting it's power to the ground. But it sure as hell aint "laggy". |

two comments:
Firstly - they should select a focus group from fordxr6forum and Ls1.com.au and maybe some others to get a good idea of what they should be doing - I bet the producer drives a pergot 206 gti and thinks it's fantastic - it's the guys behind the scenes that goof it up. Secondly - someone earlier mentioned that they guys from Fat Pizza should do the show. Now thats a damn good Idea!!!!!!! A leb, a Aussie, (maybe an Asian and maybe a Kiwi (just so they can gang up and tell sheep jokes). They could still be serious about cars but atleast it would have character. Could call it "No Gear" (and have naked chicks) ;)) Only problem is that sbs used to do these cool weird shows so You would probably have to go to TVS or a commercial channel (no chance) - maybe an internet based show for starters. -btw I copyrighted the no gear Idea ;) |

An analytical break down of the video footage (that was spliced mind you) to conclude that the R8 actually won the drag race. Talk about desperation to cling to validation.

I only saw ep 2 but my issues are -
1. Why does it need to be a clone of the UK show? 2. whats with the hosts? They try too hard?

I think you are ALL taking it way too seriously... its just a tv show, and an SBS one
at that!

What did you expect for free? I think they're doing a good job in the scheme of things.

I really appreciated the idea and had high anticipations for the first ep.........but cant be motivated to watch another episode. I only watched the second one after seeing they had FPV v HSV.
In the wash up they might be smart enough to take on the feedback but it may be to late already looking at the massive drop in viewer figures even from ep 1 to ep2 |

All the footage for the tests have been filmed already, but that still doesn't mean they don't have control over the editing week to week. If they read reviews on how people thought they should show more track time and better camera angles, then you get the lackeys to go back and re-edit before airing. I thought this ep was better then the first. I still hate the main presenter though. The way he talks with his hands and cuts people off in weird ways annoys the out of me. And whats with the wierd pauses when people stop talking??? FFS get some personality son! Why have a bloody catoonist as your third though? He has no real personality either, doesn't exactly look good on camera, and knows next to nothing about what people want to hear about with cars. Even James May knew more when he started then this bloke does now! |

I've seen your video in the other thread and I have to say I can see (and hear) where it takes a while to get going (your 0 - 30kph is relatively slow) and then takes off, shift gear - takes a while then goes. I'm not saying the F6 is a slow vehicle because its not. It just has a non linear power delivery as clearly shown in the Top Gear segment. |

I'm happy to have the extra motoring show on tele and do believe that Charlie and the bearded boy (forgot his name) do have the expertise to do the show. I can't stand the cartoonist guy as he is lame. His jokes aren't even funny. As some of you have already mentioned the guys will hopefully get more comfortable as the show goes on. I just wish they used their own personalities rather than trying to copy the UK guys. Charlie Cox can be guilty of a Clarkson cloning every now and then.
Hope they do well but get the Aussie slant on it rather than copying the poms.

Ford V Holden....
what an awful awful test!!..... what were the specs of the cars? What were the prices? which was better bang for buck? .... cant believe they only showed which accelerated quicker (v8 v Turbo) and which one stopped quicker... what a pi$$ poor comparison... and why didnt they have a V8 FPV v the Holden V8... I am convinced these guys are killing what could have been a good show.... Sorry, but I will be recording Oprah in the middle of the day so I have something to watch whilst Aust Top Gear is on!!

I know it's called Top Gear but they really should give it an Aussie flavour instead trying to copy the UK format word for word if you know what I mean...
It's good but not great, the camera shots are very well done, the presenters are okay but I think what makes the original Top Gear so good is Jeremy Clarkson's "in your face" attitude and his creative use of words. The F6 vs R8 was again a pretty average test, the HSV definitely got the jump off the line and by the finish line they were even. With a decent driver behind the FPV, it would have smashed the HSV to pieces no problem. Here's the photo finish...

I concur 100%. To their credit, they did give the F6 the win by a bonnet so its not all bad news, but their mockery of the F6 and legal speeds etc was a bit of a stretch considering everyone here who owns one knows how to launch it. FFS, even the XR6 turbo comes with a launch control to get past the spool up stage of the motor and put it into that huge torque band, I don't think the Hammond wannabe knows about it which proves he is either ignorant in not having researched the car or just really stupid. I guess what really grates on my nerve is the fact that we had a perfect show which was insanely funny whilst informative which was replaced by a knock off which really struggles in every way. Maybe the hosts need to rethink their approach to it and stop trying to be clones of the legendary three, and judging by the amount of negative comment over the interweb I think even the UK audience of Top Gear think its an absolute farce. Check it out on youtube and the comments about how much people think it sucks.

7 years off the U.K version of cause it is going to be better then the first season of the Aussie version if the knockers of the show care to look at the early eppisode of the U.K show they would see it also was not the best. I my opion give these blokes a chance and see how it develops. And one last thing the U.K show also has a budget that 6 times as large as your own Aussie version :disco:

I couldn't even watch the whole episode, they come across as apart from Steve. The F6 vs Clubsport drag showed total lack of objectivity, of course a 6.2 litre will get the jump if both cars are just left idling then have the throttle floored. I won't be watching it again. They couldn't even get the power or price of the Ford GT right!

I thought I'd give them another chance and this episode was a definite improvement. It would be nice if the whole show was done in a different style instead of a clone of the U.K version. Those are very big shoes to fill.

Jeeze, some people are hard to please.
I personally think the UK version is better, but for a show that has been refined over the past 6-7 years, you would expect it to be. I really want this show to go one, it can only get better as the hosts work more with each other. Half the reason I think Top Gear UK is so good is due to the banter that goes on between Clarkson, May and Hamond, has me in hysterics half the time. This will improve with TopGear AUS over time. The more bad commennts people make, the more bad press the show gets, the less likely it's going to get a second season. Some people would probably be happy that it gets pulled off. If you hate is so much just change the channel and watch the plethera of US crime shows that seem to litter TV so much these days. I would much rather have 2 Top Gear shows than just one. Ten (approx) episodes of Top Gear UK per seaon just isn't enough for me. I hope this show sticks around and will improve with age. |
