Default WA Police cars going green..

I saw a clip on the news last night of an Astra decked out with Police decals plus flashing blue and red lights on the roof being flogged around a test track, I thought It was a clip from England then when I saw this on the net today!

According to this, The WA police may use Turbo Astras or Imprezza WRX's instead of their 6 cylinder cars to set an example of being environmentally friendly.

Gone are the days when it was quite a sight to watch a V8 cop car ROAR past you with lights flashing and sirens blaring.

Green cop cars

What a waste. If i was a copper id feel ashamed driving one of them.

I agree with you fordowner. How awesome was it to hear the v8s go roaring past. Now days you only hear that with the flashing lights from western powers emergency F250's.

While im sure theyre quick and more economical etc etc its a pretty sad thing to see.

Ah well, makes it easier to ram them off the road. Probably. They should just stop trying to be clever and stick to what theyve got.

Also funny how the media calls them "hoon" cars.

LOL, Astra's...

Good luck to them catching the outback cowboys (I met alot of them whilst living there) over there in SS & XR8 Utes, not to mention road bikes.

Just because they good enough for The London Met doesn't mean they will be suited to WAs wide open spaces. Are they TURBO ASTRAs? HSV maybe, LOL
Going green my dick, what about all the fuel the ships use to transport them and all their spare parts here? I will bet they are not diesels either. My local general duties Police have LPG Falcons, I thought it was going to be a thread about that, seeing this is a FORD forum after all.

Perhaps some of you should read the article first.

Doesn't look to be replacing highway patrols.

They said they were Turbo deisal Astras.
OMG.
But they weren't replacing the general patrol cars with them, just the cars that are used as run abouts for office staff, community policing, media, inquiries etc.
BTW I heard that there is only one on loan so we'll see if they go with them, probably not I'd say.

Well, I did put this Thread in the Pub-"For General Automotive related talk"
But true that. It really peeved me that they are not even waiting to see what Fords "Orion" will have to offer. I read on another thread that Ford might introduce a new gas powererd model. But hey, If its only for office staff and what not, it could be perfect...But why not a FORD small car?

PS, its a pretty cool looking light bar on the roof huh?

Thay have a Commodore now but would rather a falcon.

Dad's been in for 35 or so years and issuing speeding tickets or any traffic type stuff is Very Low on his list of priority's, I get some funny story's out of the old boy thou.

Victoria Police tried using the WRX's, totally unsuitable. Too small a car.

Good pick up crYnOid!!
They probably want the WRX for its resale value... Hang on! didnt the cops stop using V8's so young drivers could not pick up a cheap ex cop car V8?
Looks like young drivers will soon be able to pick up a cheap "HOON" car.

How the hell will a policeman wearing the equipment belt fit in a WRX seat?

Can anyone say 'WorkCover'? I dare say there may be a few more back injuries pending over in WA.

Ever driven a 6spd manual astra diesel? It'd lose an xt squad car around the metro areas and use 1/3rd the fuel! They are suprisingly fast. They'll embarrass a BA from the lights or on a rolling start in traffic.

How fast can a WRX go (straight line and cornering) compared to a V6 Omega.

Its really a great idea putting people that would have spent almost all their driving lives in a rear wheel drive sedan, into a front wheel drive buzzbox. Thats gonna work.

And Im pretty sure they stopped using the v8's here coz cops kept parking them in trees

Maybe so, but the one they're trialing is an auto, no doubt still reasonably quick, but an auto?
