Default Firework Laws

I am wondering what the fireworks laws in Canberra are these days as im looking at gettin some crackers or something to bring home with me after Summernats. I read somewhere that u have to be an ACT resident and can only buy on 1 week of the year. Will i be able to get some little crackers or are they classed the same as bigger fireworks.
Thanks

You need a permit. You can buy them from most Adult Store's in Canberra, but I'm not sure whether you can get them any other time than around the Queens Birthday weekend.

A guy at work who left just prior to Christmas, his Family is one of the largest importer and distributor of fireworks in Canberra. I think they are the market.

When I was living up there on 2001, if you are from interstate (ie. you have an interstate drivers license) you can buy what ever you like, whenever you like. You need to sign a form saying you will take the fireworks out of the ACT 'as soon as practical'. But other than than, that's it.

If you are an ACT resident, you can only get them in the lead up to Queens birthday weekend.

God knows I bought a truck load in the lead up to new years on 2002. Had a great time that night.

Rules have changed

http://www.workcover.act.gov.au/docs/fireworks.htm

General Information
As part of the ACT Government's commitment to improving community safety and reducing the number of firework related incidents, the Government regulations under the Dangerous Substances Act 2004 restrict the sale, use, and availability of fireworks.

The official Queen's Birthday long weekend is the only time of the year when members of the public are legally allowed to use fireworks. The regulations also require that fireworks may only be sold from licensed premises and not, for example, from the roadside.

Who can purchase and use consumer fireworks?
Only ACT residents, who are 18 years or older, may purchase fireworks for use during the Queen's Birthday Public Holiday weekend only.

Who can sell consumer fireworks?
Fireworks retailers must have a licence to sell consumer fireworks. These licences are issued by the Office of Fair Trading.

When can consumer fireworks be used?
Fireworks may only be discharged between 5:00pm and 10:00pm on Saturday, Sunday and Monday of the Queen's Birthday Public Holiday weekend.

Fireworks cannot be used during a total fire ban. For information relating to fire bans, telephone 6207 8603.

Where can consumer fireworks be used?
Fireworks may only be purchased and used within the ACT.

Fireworks cannot be used in public streets or parks without prior written approval from the relevant Government authority. For information relating to obtaining approval for the use of fireworks in public places, telephone Urban Parks and Places on 6207 7132 and Commonwealth land, telephone National Capital Authority on 6271 2888.

Just watch out for the 6 shooters and stuff....

sometimes they tip over when the first shot fires off, and then rotate shooting the other 5 in your general direction.

I aquire them on the occasion, where and who is my business...But you just need to know the right people!
