Default Dumped car, what do i do?

Car dumped out side of work.
We were wondering what to do? We are in NSW and it has been there for a week now.

Any tips on who to call?

Has it still got rego? If so, you can't do much. If not, ring your local council and they will dispose of it for you.

First call the Police (your local station not 000) and find out if it is a stolen vehicle.

Just call the cops, they will contact the owner or get it towed, depending on the situation. Some poor bastard is brobably looking for his car....

If the car is registered and parked legally nothing can be done.

If the car is registered and illegally parked it will be issued an infringement notice.

If the car is registered and parked, obstructing traffic or not safe, it "can" be towed by Police.

If the car is unregistered and has been so for more than 14days, police will attend and removed the plates and contact local council. Council will place a notice of intent on the vehicle giving the owner 21days to remove it. If not removed in 21 days the council will remove the vehicle to a holding yard. After 12months and all reasonable attempts have been made to contact the last registered owner the council will sell the vehicle at a government auction.

If the vehicle is stolen, police will either contact the owner or tow it to a holding yard (if the owner nominated this at the time of reporting it stolen).

REGARDLESS of any of the above situations just contact the local Police station and they will make the relevant enquiries.

Most council by-laws prevent the parking of a vehicle on the street for more than 24 hours.

However, if you ring the council, they'll probably just send a sticker-licker over to attach a fine... not very helpful.

As others' have suggested... ring the police, it's probably stolen.

Parramatta Rd eh? Go in at 1am push it onto the road and in the am it will be towed away. Easy. Can't imagine it will stay very long if it's holding up traffic or in a clearway.

In any case if there is a car thats left parked for a period of time that looks suss ask the owner of the house its parked at if they know, if not call the police. Had an old XF in my court a few years back but was a dead give away with window left open. I reported it to the police with rego number and description, it ended up being stolen and dumped.

Thats a good point, i wish i had done that last time one got dumped near me!

The burning idea is good fun though..... BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!!!!!!!!!

Pushing it into the middle of the road, could cause an accident before someone reports it though, remember, most drivers are morons........

Ive had two cars which I got dirt cheap and made into a good profit, both were dumped and had the doors open so I got into the glove box, found rego papers, looked up numbers in the phone book and called the owners. Luckily after some quick chat I got the cars. Yes a bit sly lol but after a few calls you might end up with a half decent car that can be had cheap which you can either wreck or flog it off to the wreckers.

We had an EF Fairmont dumped in our work carpark, keys and all!
After 2 weeks and the owner saying he dosent want it anymore (it was trashed) We pushed it out onto the side of the road and left it there minus stacker and a few bits that were missing before we moved it (i swear ;))
Council wouldnt tow it because it was on private property.

what an idiot, you'd think you'd just call a wreckers to come pick it up instead of just dumping it on somones doorstep.. hell a wreckers would even pay for it
