Wow, I didn't realise Ford were doing so well, only 100 or so units behind Toyota. Focus, Falcon and Mondeo all in the top 10. Those Commodore vs Falcon figures are very reassuring, for the NZ market at least.

The population of NZ is less than 4.3 million as oppose to Australia's 21.5 million.
The NZ car market is flooded with imported cars that are very cheap fro what you get.
We move there in 2 days and I have just purchased a BMW for $4,600 AU that here would be in excess of $20k.
Why would you buy a new car when you can buy such cheap secondhand ones.

Commodore and Falcon are pretty much equal, but Ford overall is higher, looks good, even though as a whole the Ford range doesn't sell as many cars as just the Falcon does here..

Shows what decent marketing can do for Ford.

99Ghia is on the money regarding imports, they're bloody good value and it's easy enough to buy through overseas auctions and import and register with minimal costs/taxes. Having said that, new car sales are incredibly slow at the moment.

I'm actually dissapointed the VE is outselling the FG (by the tinyest of margins) considering the great job Ford NZ has done marketing the FG. Bloody SportWagons everywhere at the moment.

Im an NZer and yes Ford has sold a hell of a lot of brand new BFIIs, there all over the place now which is fantastic. I've also noticed alot of FGs on NZ roads too, especially XR6 (non turbo) and G6E Turbo models.

Like 99Ghia has said, NZ is flooded with imports. Not sure in Oz but in NZ you can buy a nice Ford (Falcon/Fairmont) for pretty cheap due to both petrol and imports numbers!

The FG over here in nz is popping up quite a bit around the place now,which is awesome but havent seen any fpvs in person yet,but when i do it will be a good day.

12 Months ago they were selling twice as many commodores then Falcons. You'd hate to carry a product with that sort of trampolining sales.

It's about 2k from Bris to Auckland. But the laws from there to here are the same as here to there
and just because its legal in one country it may not be in the other.
To start with you have to have owned the car in the other country
registered and lived in country with for a period of 12 months.
Hence why when we move there in 2 days my car can't come.

man when i look at the prices of bmws or mercs here in perth and compare it to nz or uk it makes me so angry, middle working class in aus is getting raped bad

Yeah its a joke hey. I intend on bringin the 740 we buyin back to oz in 12 months and triplin my money. Go back upgrade in years and do it again if I can pull it off. lol

Not quite correct, you do not have to have owened a car in Australia for 12 months to be able to import it to NZ, I know, as I brought my car back from Aust. It does however effect the amount of duty you pay if under 12 months

And getting Complience in NZ, that another story

Compliance is the issue. Because the car is pre 2003 and oz built it doesn't have exhaust emission standards on comp plate.
So yes you do have to have it for 12 months because it has to be brought in under immigration status.
Under immigration status you must have the car for 12 months. Believe me if there was a loop hole I would've found it.
Have rung that many govt dept in NZ that I know the Kiwi national Anthem better than any of them do. lol
