Talking Road Trip - Geelong-Bathurst XP Wagon!

Well, as the title says, myself & a mate are leaving Geelong at sparrow's tomorrow (Fri 8th) to head to Bathurst for the weekend. Neither of us have been before so that's exiting, but the really cool/nerve wracking thing is we're going in my XP wagon.
Just come in from cleaning/changing fluids etc...

The farthest I've been with the old girl is Geelong to Echuca so we're doing about 3 times that this time I think.....fingers crossed.
Wave if you see this wizz by.......

Or of course stop if we're broken down

Hopefully all goes well, will post some pics when we get back for anyone interested!
Cheers
Wazza

You'll be right. Bathurst is a nice place, the track is actually alot steeper than it looks on TV you'll be surprised. If you detour through Sydney give us a yell. Bathurst is about 2+ hours from Sydney from memory. Accomodation might be tough, may have to sleep in the back of the van. Ute is coming along, only the tray left on the body work then paint. Hopefully!

Cheers guys,
Intending to go either the Olympic Way after Albury, or turn off the Hume around Gundagai. either way, don't think we'll hit Sydney Clint, unless something goes horribly wrong with our navigation.....
Think the old bird should make it fine (touch wood). Does the Geelong-Ballarat run pretty regularly and besides, have to stop every 2hrs or so as the fuel tank just aint that big!

Jeez that brings back memories. I learned to drive in an XP Wagon (Red). Mate enjoy the trip and the big race and tell us about your travel experiences in the XP when you return.

Take some flyscreen for the radiator! Plenty of bugs out at the moment.

If it makes you feel any better, we're taking a XM Falcon on an offroad adventure from Tamworth to Warialder via Hearvey bay in QLD. We are leaving for Tamworth from the sunshine coast on Thursday. We are also taking it on the sand from Noosa to Rainbow beach on our journey, .. some 66km of beach driving.

So I think you will be right on your little trip. Have fun at Bathurst.... you'll make it, but i'm not sure we will.

I drove an XP from Southport to Port Douglas recently along mostly dirt roads (4000km) and it did not miss a beat.

You will have a ball...........

Well, pleased to report the wagon made the 1700km roundtrip without missing a beat. Only slight annoyance was some muppet in a 4wd coming the other way with a caravan kicked up some stones & put a small chip in the screen. Apart from that, she stayed at about half temp & never uttered a sound in protest.
Had a great weekend. Better than I'd ever expected it to be, both the venue and the racing 1st hand. The owner of the house we stayed at even let me keep the XP in his garage at night!
Here's a couple of random pics....

Little bit hazy at work today, didn't get home till 9pm, but very well worth every minute of the trip.
And,
If possible, I think I love my wagon even more!

Nah not very far. Had a drive up pit-straight around hell corner, but the road was still closed about 1/3rd of the way up mountain straight. They apparently open the road back up to traffic later in the day, but we had a long way to go so didn't stick around.
Would have been very cool, but still not bad being on the circuit for even a little bit.
