Default Aston Martin considering V12..... Cygnet?

Quote:
As if the Aston Martin Cygnet weren't unlikely enough, rumor is that a Cygnet with the company's 6.0-liter V12 could find its way onto the British automaker's offer sheets. Yes, really. It would undoubtedly be special order or very limited edition, but according to a report in Autocar, Aston is taking it seriously enough to have completed a feasibility study.

The iQ-derived Cygnet minicar uses the 1.3-liter, 97-horsepower motor provided by Toyota, but it's apparently been found that there is room enough in that engine bay shoebox for Aston's 6.0-liter, 510-horsepower V12 "without extensive modifications." The changes necessary to fortify the rest of the Cygnet to handle a detuned iteration of the V12 haven't been divulged, but they are apparently "not insurmountable."

Autocar compares the concept of a V12 Cygnet to that of the Nissan Juke R. But whereas the latter offered Juke roominess with Godzilla power that made us go, "Hey!", the idea of a hot rod Cygnet – a Cygnet, mind you – makes us go, "Hmmm." For now.

Seriously Aston? Pull the other leg, it plays jingle bells.

Maybe if they took the whole interior out they might have some room to fit it inside, if they can find a way to maybe mount the seats on the roof so it can be driven maybe?

I recon the V12 would probably be 60% of the size of the car itself.

Where is a V12 going to fit? On a trailer permanently being towed behind that car?

That's a W12 in a Golf - a shorter engine in a larger car.

Yeah i thought of that, but it obviously wasnt sold and only one was made and it didnt fully function etc etc (With some work it may have) also its a W12, not a V12 so shorter and the Golf looks longer.
Surely Aston wouldnt go down that stupid route, but moreso follow Nissan with the Juke R and produce something that is salable?

Easy does it

Wasn't the idea of the Cygnet to bring down the brands average emissions? If they throw their V12 in this won't it effectively cancel itself out?
And is this front wheel drive? It's going to take a lot of work to fit in an engine of this nature, plus strengthen gearbox, tailshaft, diff, fatter wheels, upgraded brakes and suspension, etc etc.

Surely this isn't serious?

Topgear - the same show where Jeremy Clarkson said while driving an Evo and explaining its AWD system that it could be one wheel drive if it wanted to be? Lol.

A V12 Aston powered anything will do me thanks.

I could probably fit two Cygnets in my single car garage as well. That settles it, I'll take two.

I was reading Muscle Mustangs and Fast Fords and they had a 20 years of SVT article. Turns out the Aston V12 was borrowed from the Ford Indigo concept and its basically 2 Ford V6's joined together.

I heard that ages ago. But I believe the meaning was it was essentially an existing Ford V6 architecture... lengthened to a V12.

Yup, it's basically two Duratec V6's (think Mondeo & Jaguar 3.0L's) in a single block....so they say...

This is just a marketing gag from AM...and it's done exactly what it it was meant to, make people talk about AM's....
