Default Smash repair whinge

I was told my GT would take a week to fix. Then after a week they said another week. That week was up tomorrow. Today they call and say another week.

I'm having V8 withdrawls!

Sorry for the rant. I just know that some of you will understand...

i was in the same boat when i had my gt repaired last year, every time i rang up they keep telling me next week after 4 weeks i got it back, trust me, try and not to call them as much as if you do they only try and rush it to finish time quicker for you, being a FPV GT and if your like me you want be happen if anything is not right. i know it's going to be hard not to.

cheers dean

I had a crash in a new company Hilux, moderate hit on the front right, you'd think $6,000 would stop it.
Not Toyota, the parts are WICKED and drove repair costs to $18,000.

And it's been 8 weeks and counting...

Mate of mine put his car in for a job that was meant to be done and dusted in 3 weeks.
It's now week 20 and at last report it's still in the shop.

It is a parts wait according to them. Two weeks to get a bumper. On an Aussie car.

I hope it doesn't take 20 weeks!

6 and half weeks for mine

Make sure you inspect and inspect and inspect again.
Dont be rushed when picking it up.

Point out faults on a notepad.

I had 13 faults i found, went back for rectification hence 6.5 weeks to fix.

Wonder what the parts wait will be like when FG's are the age of your BA after Ford shuts it's doors.

FPV stuff can be like that, Aussie stuff can actually be quite bad for delays...

But, there is worse... Had a 2 month wait on a Range Rover dashboard once...

If a panel shop, or any other business for that matter, says 4 weeks and takes 4, or even 5 there isn't generally any issues, but when they are saying 1 and it turns into 3 or 4 it ****** people off.
Im self employed, and learnt a long time ago that telling clients they had to wait 6-8 weeks or so up front generally gets a wtf look first, but when I explain to them that I could tell them a couple of weeks and then i can lie to them and stuff them around for a few more they'd get the idea, and thank me for my honesty.
Generally they would come back to book me in for a set date and we'd all be happy.

Must have been a bit of mech damage? Toyota are a bit hit and miss with parts, some are dirt cheap, whilst others make you cringe... 70 series land cruisers are ridiculous, at least $1000 for a headlamp (and as far as headlamps go, they are basic...a falcon headlamp has more components but comes in under $200 IIRC...). Panels on those cruisers are exxy too...

We did a Lexus RX450, needed a new headlamp... $3000

Nothing has changed for 35 years, I would have thought that by now panelbeaters would understand that parts delays are the norm and not to raise customers expectations. We hear the same complaints by owners many times on these forums. A bit more explanation would go a long way.

Parts supply is not in the control of the shop and most instances the dealer.
Holden could not supply VE guards for a couple months, VE wagon tailgates were on back order. Then they've changed the internal frame and you have to buy a $900 fitting kit if you are retro fitting it to a VE. VE ute tailgates are rare as rocking horse ****.
Five months for parts for a brand new Jeep.
Two months for current Kuga exhaust.

Some parts dept can order parts on a VOR (vehicle off road) status - usually that should only take 10 days max to arrive. But thats usually only used for cars in the service dept workshops - rarely used for panel shops.

If the car is still driveable, I'd rather wait until they have the parts in stock before taking it there. I hate being without my car for too long, knowing that it's just sitting in some workshop when it's still perfectly driveable.

On the quote, the labour was very reasonable, the assessors were floored by the cost of parts, stoved the bonnet right guard, radiator support panel, head light and pushed radiator/A/C evaporator onto fan, no damage to frame...

The same as BA's are now, or any other Ford, local or imported that is out of production.

Why do people think Ford would not want to sell parts for recent models? They make bigger margin on selling parts than on selling whole cars.......

iirc, legally a manufacturer only needs to continue to manufacture parts for a vehicle for ten years. What Ford and Holden tend to do, is discontinue manufacturing parts right on the ten year mark from the first time it was used in production.
How about 20 working days for a current model Golf internal handle pull cable...

Lol ..... Be waiting a while if it was parts. Just a restorer who has no frigging idea. Stuffed me around so much with mine that I burnt my bridge and now have to get bad workmanship sorted else where at my cost. There are rogues out there.

Remember too...

A car might be booked in, and it might have only needed X amount of parts, and on strip down there is always a chance of some other busted things.

Also, parts arrive damaged or wrong, and then there is a another wait...

Probably better due to aftermarket.

A lot of crash shops are greed driven they will tell you just about anything to make sure they win the job. They tend to book in too much work and then guess what!! you get the run around .If your car is an insurance job and you feel your being mucked around by the crash shop get onto your assessor they don't like the insurance company getting annoyed with them. Make sure you have a very good look at the quality of the workman ship before you take the vehicle home,If its not satisfactory leave it there .I hope your car is just a parts shortage issue good luck.
