how did your ford tackle the recent wild weather conditions?

Sydney has of late experienced wild weather conditions, massive rain fall in short periods of time has left many roofs damaged, heavy hail and winds present over past few days in particular.

I have a xr6t that has never seen rain so that is basically hidden away in this sort of weather not to get its feet wet. In any respect the huge mid range torque would be difficult to tame in the wet (difficult in dry)

However, i also have an AWD territory. I was on the m4 motorway when all of a sudden i was hit with wild weather, huge hail stones were pelting the car, rainfall extreme where you couldnt see 20 metres ahead. Most cars on motorway pulled over as it was like driving on ice. But the sure footed awd territory simply gobbled up the km and headed safely for home.

Whilst in the car i was certain the car was seriously damaged, the hail stones were smashing the windscreen that hard that i thought it was ready to smash through it. Never experienced weather like it. Look at the marks on the windscreen.

Parked the car in garage and used chamois to wipe top dry.. there were hail stones piled up at bottom of windscreen. They had melted by then and sort of formed really large pieces of ice.

I was amazed that there looks to be zero damage, i will post pics to show the conditions and hail stones still on the car. You can see it looks all clear with regard to damage. Once chamois and taken outside (when rain stopped), confirmed no damage at all. Stunned.

The awd territory felt sure footed and safe for the family whilst being tough and rugged enough to withstand an absolute hail pounding. So impressed with the car, worth every penny of the fuel consumption if it keeps family safe and is resiliant to wild conditions. As i said most cars had to pull over on side road. My xr6t would have been a blubbering mess in those conditions being all over the road and likely damaged.

How did your ford tackle the wild weather?

Yesterday I looked at the weather map online, couldn't help but notice that there was a storm front, or at least rain, over most of the major cities in Aus.

...nowhere else, just over each major city.

& y'all think we're not having an effect on the planet?

After 4 days with no electricity and not wanting to climb over the car to manually release the automatic door opener, this morning I took her out to give her some fresh air and warm up in the sun just before the rain came back.

both cars were sitting out in the driveway yesterday afternoon ..... front lawn looked like it has snowed.

Later in the evening heading to work on the M7 .... there was still hail left in mounds off the side of the road. So there was a decent amount of hail dumped on Western Sydney.

BOM showed BLACK sections passing over my area. Kids thought it was mad though.

I gave this homeless guy I saw a peg and some used underpants to lay on my car during it all better then insurance

I don't know I didn't drive to Sydney's bad weather.

But in other parts of nsw that also had bad weather my brakes and steering got a work out dodging fallen trees and pooling water. I drove home from work at 330am Tuesday morning when it was only just getting bad. At that stage there was no warning for any of the road hazards. A few smaller branches got crushed.

I saw those hailstones that hit Sydney on the news. They were tiny little pea sized things. Up here in Brissie we get hailstones the size of golfballs and I have seen them cricket ball sized. When they hit your car you know you have been hit. Smashed windscreens and rear windows are common. Huge dents on roof and bonnet too.

Autumn seams to be the wettest time of the year for Eastern NSW, so it doesn't seam that weird to have major rainfall this time of year. I can't speak for other parts of Australia.

Plus Global Warming, or Climate Change affect the whole world, not just above major cities. If that were true it would be raining all day everyday in places Like China and India.

I hopped in my FG XR6 the day after the rain stopped, not having driven it for a few days, it being parked outside during the storms.
I started it, and found the fuel level, water temp, tacho and speedo needles dead. A DSC fault also came up a few seconds later.
A few kilometres later, I noticed the high beam light had come on sometime, and after checking, I found the high beams were not actually on.
This was the third time in the last few years dash instrument issues arose after wet weather, although on the two previous occasions I had left the window partly open and the seats and carpets got damp.
After the previous incidents, I learned that the instruments would eventually bring themselves back to life as if the little elves who generate the electronics were busy drying their circuits out. And so after last weeks storms, the instruments in my Falcon slowly came reliably back to life within a day, despite a couple of recurrences on restarts, and now three days later are all back doing their job as they are paid to do.
PS Every few years in Sydney we could get a hail storm with "gold ball sized hail". I had two cars trashed from a hail storm about five years ago.

a mate of mine has a new jeep cherokee that was in the same area as my Territory when the hail hit..

His car is a mess full of hail damage. dented all bonnet and roof.

Is the territory a tougher car?

Wouldn't know - the doors on the garage have swelled shut with all the rain and I haven't seen the coupe for 2 weeks. On the upside, I haven't had to do any gardening or sweeping either (tool all in the garage)

Unless it was parked next to your car a proper comparison just can't be made.

You can get rain/hail in one place but 2 blocks away get nothing. As you would well realise.

He could achieve a proper comparison by parking the Territory and Jeep side by side and dropping same size ball bearings from a set hight and recording the damage over a trial sample of say 100. Please post results with photos.

I was on m4 driving past huntingwood at the time. Mates cherokee was at doonside, pretty much same area.

My inlaws live right near the M7/M4 interchange ... and the trees were shredded in some of the paddocks ... thank goodness I was at home in Erskine Park ... we got a barrage but not so bad as there.

so again Hulk how large was the hail you drove through that didn't break the windscreen or even dent your car?

styrafoam ball size hail. the kind that goes in your bean bag. just a **** load of it to cause roof/building collapses..
My territory went very well through 35cm of subburban street floow water.

Our office at Roseberry had the roof collapse due to the amount of hail on the roof. By all accounts it is a mess.
