I was most disappointed to see that after spending ages washing my Focus on Saturday, that after a short drive on Sunday, there was mud splattered up the side of my car - it then dawned on me what was different about this car to my previous cars - no mud guards!!
Rather than wash the side of my car after every drive (like that's gonna happen!) i think i'd prefer to get mud guards fitted. Any opinions on them here? Ta, Nic : |

I have them, no complaints with them................yet. If i lower they may come off, and they cant be fitted if you have a bodykit.

Well if you guys have/want them, that's good enough for me! :
I had two Falcon drivers telling me that they detract from the look of the car - personally, i think mud also detracts from the look of the car, and i know what i'd prefer! Are there specific Focus ones made by Ford? Any pics? |

Yep, Focus specific ones are available. Ask at Ford Spares and they'll be able to get them for you.
As for pics:- sorry for the dirty car and 4WD ride height! :

If your that worried about the looks of the car, just put the front muds on... thats what i did (diff car) and its the best (kinda) of both worlds. Most of the car stays clean (isnt much bumper/car after the rear wheels), and the car still looks good without the back mudgaurd look

I am not a fan of mudflaps at all. They look ugly, and if you're getting mud splashed onto the side of the car, it needs a wash anyway.
But, this is from the person who can't enter a driveway at more than 2kph sideways at the pain of destroying my bodykit, so take my advice with a pinch of salt. This will show you where practicality vs good looks stands with me. Tim |

mud flaps serve a useful purpose if most of your driving is on dirt roads and or wet conditions.
Personally I dont mind them but dont think they add alot of asthetic appeal to your car, but then again as Tim pointed out its really a question of practicality vs asthetics now isnt it? If you want em, get em, if not then dont.

Well there are posers and there are practical people :Reverend: I am seriously considering it, I think it would actually suit the rally look and sound of my beast. That and I love my dirt roads so much AND do so much driving on Melbourne's "rainy" roads lol.

For those who have them, did you get them fitted, or DIY? And why is there what appears to be carpet covering the back inner wheel arch??? lol And Timmeh - surely i don't have to wash my car after every drive?? : Seriously, one 10km drive, with 100m being down the dirt driveway of a golf club (driving slowly at that!!) and it needed washing. That's just too high maintenance for me! |

Mudflaps, kinda look gumby and retail for about 80 bucks for fronts or rears. But lets face it, the reason they are there is to protect the paint which is alot more than 160 bucks. Driving on crappy country roads they are a necesity, thats why I got them. To negate their gheyness, one could install a ST170 lower grille like melbzetecs for just over 100 bucks.
