ive seen this about a couple of times and its a 100RON fuel with %5 ethanol. what i'd like to know is, has anyone tried it? did it make the car feel quicker? and do you reckon the e-series cars can run it?

Hey simmo my reply is a bit unrelated but i have run 98 ron from united which is 10% ethanol in my CBR250rr bike and it runs good and also have run it in my sprint (recently) and it seems fine.. as far as a performance gain i aint felt any id say you would have to tune the car e.g wind up timing and so forth to see a gain. i usually run BP ultimate in my bike and car and have found no loss or gain in power, by switching to the ethanol fuel... i dont see a problem with e series cars running it its still unleaded ive heard once the ethanol rating gets over 11% the cars dont run the best or not that great for them.. but at the current mix that servos sell its safe.

I've tried it a couple of times in different cars , i cant tell the difference btw it and normal optimax and to be honest BP ultimate and mobil 8000 are better than the shell optimax to begin with. I read somewhere Ford won't make any guarantees for use in pre 1998 cars iirc . But at only 5% ethanol , the shell stuff would probably be OK.

yeh i've used bp ultimate in the xr6 since i got it and i noticed the diff when i put the first tank in. since its only 5% im not that worried about the effects on fuel system or whatever. i think i might head down and put half a tank in the beast and report back.

I used to have a bike it was a 2-stroke and the plugs used foul up all the time, one day someone told me that the Optimax would be the cause so I tried another premium fuel and never had any problems with plugs fouling again.
So I try to keep away for Shell, I think BP Ultimate and Caltex Vortex are good, sometime you get freak batches of fuel and you can really notice a big difference in performance and you can get an extra 100km’s out of the tank. I was using United’s Boost 98 I didn’t notice any lose in power but after a while I started getting worse fuel economy so I went back to standard fuel. I would still like to try Optimax Extreme it could be good, anyway here's a link that tells you where you can find Optimax extreme: http://www.shell.com/home/Framework?...g_extreme.html |

Tried Optimax extreme as soon as it came out. An absolute waste of $$$ - the car's economy is worse, no real great power improvement.
It was slightly smoother but just remember it's just an extra water condensation issue that you don't need. As others have said here Optimax is a dirty poor quality fuel when compared to BP Ultimate and others such as Mobil Synergy or even Caltex Vortex...

On a side note, I've heard people say they get the same performance from Mobil Synergy 6000 (96 RON) as they do from Shell Optimax.

My Turbo loves it! I've been using nothing but Optimax (and Extreme since it came out) for years now and my cars love it!
I don't notice any improvement in economy because of my prosthetic (made out of lead) right foot. |
