Default overhaulling Australia's retail petrol industry.

http://www.news.com.au/story/0,23599...7-1702,00.html

"NATIONALS Senator Barnaby Joyce has crossed the floor to vote with Labor and the minor parties in a bid to give the competition watchdog more power to monitor the petrol industry.

It is the third time the rebel Queenslander has crossed to vote with the Opposition.

The Senate was debating an Australian Democrats amendment to a government Bill which aims to overhaul Australia's retail petrol industry.

Senator Joyce said the competition watchdog, the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), needed to be given more power to protect small business.

Despite crossing the floor, Senator Joyce was unsuccessful in his bid because the vote was tied.

The amendment dealt with abuse of market power, unconscionable conduct and price monitoring in the retail petrol industry. "

Interesting to see how far it really goes...
