QLD power restrictions.

I have just been on the QLD gov licensing web site. I want to know what the power restrictions, if any, are in QLD. The site doesn't mention restrictions.

I will be holidaying in Cairns over chrissy and will be letting my 16 yo daughter do some of the driving. She has her NT license which has no restrictions as far as power is concerned. I was wondering if QLD has power restrictions, would they apply to her????

They don't come into effect until July 2007.

I don't believe that QLD even has power restrictions as yet, but even so if we did then no, quite simply the restrictions would not apply as she holds a N.T licence and she resides in the N.T.
If she were to move to somewhere that had restrictions, then yes, that would apply but since it is just a holiday they should not.

To clarify though, speak to your local transport office (or police station even).

Also Queensland police also drive bright red Typhoons and double demerit points over christmas new year.

Yes. P Plates don't have to be on the car until July 2007. Not sure if you will have too coming from NT, as its law in NT.

When can I drive in Queensland on my interstate or foreign drive licence?
You are only allowed to drive in Queensland on your interstate or foreign driver licence, if you:
Only drive the class of motor vehicle authorised on that licence.
Comply with the conditions (if any) of your licence.
Carry your licence with you at all times when driving and immediately show it to a police office when asked to do so.

The laws that apply are Queenslands, regardless of the issuing state. She must obey Qld road rules as to avoid a conflict with Qld drivers who drive expecting local compliance.

That is what I read on the web site as well. To me it would seem that as long as she abides by the conditions on her license she is legal.....

She can drive..she is N.T. licensed...I seem to remember this from a while back.

She can drive legally. I rang the QLD license people today. Even if QLD bring in power restrictions she would not have to abide by them. As long as she drives to the conditions of the NT license she is OK. NT have no plans to introduce power restrictions...... yet.

For the time of your trip:
1. There are no power restrictions (I drive a modded XR8 on my Ps)
2. There is no restriction limiting her to any speed. The posted limit is what she is allowed to do.

The only possible Queensland restriction that I can think of is a ZERO blood alcohol requirement. I cant image you would let her anyway, so it isnt an issue. If NT does not require her to display P plates, there is no need to display them on the trip through QLD

HiYa, she does have to wear "P" plates (red ones) so they will be on display. I will let her drive on the Mt Isa => east leg. I just hope that a black XR8 with "P" plates does not make her a target for police or other nasties. But I think she will be OK.

The cops are fairly good here. I have never felt targeted and especially in rural areas they seem to generally look for old bomb cars that are no where near roadworthy. Especially with a wise and sensible looking person in the front seat, i doubt they would bother her (assuming you are not sitting in the front seat :P ).

As long as she drives normally and doesnt get the 8 cylinder hoon urge, I wouldnt expect she would be targeted, especially when QLD P platers dont even have to display them. Also, your car is NT registered, so it would be alot of bother for no result if she is doing nothing wrong.

This has always been an interesting topic for me when I was on my Ps as I have always had mixed responses. I used to go down the coast (NSW from the ACT) about once or twice a year. I drove according to the limits put in place by my licencing authority.

I did exactly what I would of done in my home territory and passed many cops and never got pulled over. Back then the maxium speed a P plate driver could do was 90km/h and I was doing 100km/h so I assumed it was allright.

So in my experience I would have to say that your licence conditions apply for what state you are in because if you are deemed safe enough to do a certain speed or drive a certain car at home than I can't see how it could be less safe to do so elsewhere.

I think though if you get done for any traffic infringements, it's the state you are caught is what demerit point scheme you fall into.

For obvious reasons I can't see how you could apply the demerit points for her but I guess you could still get done on the fine.

You are rite. She could get a fine, but QLD can't impose demerit points on her NT license.

I know that for sure. My last fine was in QLD about 500 meters over the border from the NT. It takes a fair amount of time to bleed down from 200kph. He got me for 125kph. When you are used to travelling at 200, 100 seems like you could get out and walk faster. I'm gonna miss the NT's (//) roads. But I didn't get any points.
