Recently these campers were overwhelmed by numerous large waves while camping at Kingston (South East of South Australia).
I'm sure the Territory would have handled it!!! NOT |

Sad thing is many of these will not be covered by insurance.
It was a king tide and strong onshore wind. Fishing contest spread over many km's of beach..... they were unabvle to get the word to most. |

The Fords faired better than the Holdens and Kluger as well ... hee hee.
Commonsense would prevail ... on a beach with decent main dunes ... don't park on the seaward side. But I guess we are talking about keen fisherman ... there is no common sense there ... hee hee

you might also find that that was the only access to where they were, its not like they could have driven away from it.
the tide was a king tide, it was not predicted till it was too late and by then they couldnt get word to the fishermen. if i recall correctly, there were only 4 or 5 cars that werent a statutory write off. those that had insurance were covered, those that had none had a very expensive weekend. |

So how in a king tide, can so much damage be caused to the cars? I'd have thought a lot of pounding by large waves would have done that. Check the rear tyre on the green falcon (off the rim), numerous moldings ripped off, not to mention the occasional bumper and totally mangled caravan frame.
Amazing in my book. Hope know one was injured! |

Well I guess, cars are not really designed to be on the beach, but 4WD's are more likely to get out easier. I personally wouldn't take my car on the beach! |

I'm laughing.....only because I would never take a 2wd car onto a beach.
I would never take a 4wd onto a beach either unless I was with someone else and knew what to do if I got bogged.... I wonder if any of them were borrowed cars, you know "Going fishing dad, can I borrow the car?" |

With tides the rate of ebb and flood flow is not even between high and low tide. Rule of twelfths (12 hours high tide - low tide - high tide) means the rate of ebb flow increases in the third and fourth hours and again in the ninth and tenth hours during the flood flow. Now accentuate this between a King and a neap tide and the end result is pretty well demonstrated here.

I think of all the vehicles to make the best recovery will be the Hilux. Jeremy Clarkson proved beyond a shadow of a doubt how bullet proof those Hilux's are. Great to see them having a go under the bonnet as well in the photo, reminds me of that Hilux they got going after being in the sea for hours. How I long for my topgear revved up DVD.
