Thumbs up The Ford Focus was the top-selling car in Europe in March

The Ford Focus was the top-selling car in Europe in March, according to figures released by JATO Dynamics.

This may come as a surprise to anyone in the UK, where the Focus has been consistently at the top of the tree almost continuously since 1998. But it doesn't enjoy this kind of dominance across the continent - in March 2006, for example, the Vauxhall/Opel Astra was the number one car.

In fact, the UK had quite an effect on the European figures last month, since sales boomed thanks to the registration plate change. By contrast, there was less influence from Germany, where revised car taxation has caused sales to drop.

Across the first three months of 2007, the top-selling model has been the Vauxhall/Opel Corsa, followed by the Fiat Punto, the Focus, the Peugeot 207, the Renault Clio and the Astra.

The Volkswagen Golf is eighth in this list, behind the Ford Fiesta, but Volkswagen remains comfortably the top-selling manufacturer in Europe despite a 5.1% decline since the first quarter of last year. Ford has overtaken Vauxhall/Opel for second, both manufacturers doing better than they did this time last year.

Renault is still fourth despite a decline of 12.2% since last year. Toyota has improved by the same percentage and is now Europe's sixth highest brand, behind Peugeot.

Wow what an insightfull post.
Did you come to this conclusion after driving one?

I owned an ls focus, and I wouldn't even consider a ba/f other than an f6,and I'm dyed in the wool ford.

I can understand how they are the top selling car in europe, they're brilliant.

Here's the most unintelligable post of 2007. Anybody who wants to lose IQ points should read this.
