AU2 XR8 had problem where the clutch pedal would make a rattling noise. This was caused by a broken clutch return spring. I bought a new one from Ford yesterday which cost me $4 ( they had none in stock so they ordered one in and it only took an hour to get there which I was impressed with).
Another problem I had was faded and corroded B-pillar trims, bought a replacement set a while back for about $75.

Default tailshaft issues (vibrations)

i have a AU 1 XR8 ute and i have had issues with vibrations. When i bought the ute it had a modified 2 piece tailshaft in it (commodore i believe). I rang the original owner of it told me the original shaft gave much troubles. Anyone else had these dramas

Ive had my s1 XR6 for about 2 years, got 255,000kms on the clock, best car I've ever had. Aside from routine maint, here are the problems I have had.
1. Brake switch. Big surprise. 10 minute job

2.Clutch cable broke. I thought fair enough, its done 250k, replaced.

3.Pin that goes through clutch fork and holds clutch cable bent. Thought i had broken another clutch cable. Again, easy job to repair.

4.This one's a doozy. Running out of clutch adjustment, thought maybe it was the cable or the clutch pedal. Had a look, everything was fine. Pulled some heat shield off the firewall where the clutch cable goes through, guess what? Massive crack in firewall, about 60mm dia, 3/4 of the way around. Welded it up (luckily was able to do it without removing brake booster) but not happy at all. Firewall's shouldn't crack

5.Running out of clutch adjustment again. Checked the weld on the firewall, holding up fine. Looked at everything else, also fine. Decided to pull the gearbox out, must be pressure plate fingers. Get the dust excluder off gearbox and bugger me the clutch fork is cracked 3/4 of the way through. Pulled out gearbox, welded up the clutch fork. Now it works like a treat (touch wood)

Spose it's lucky that I can do all of this work myself, otherwise I'd be flat broke and hate my car, and I don't want that. I just hope the clutch system holds up.

Default AU Fairlane Window switches

I've had to replace four so far. The window goes down - then won't come up. The quick fix is to swap a switch from a window that's up - that'll get you home. (the panel pops out with a screwdriver and the switches can be dropped out of their clips by releasing the plastic latch each side.)

$22 each.... I smell a conspiracy Cleaning hasn't fixed any of mine. There's a tiny light bulb or diode attached to the contacts. I suspect that it's there to provide some electrical resistance when the window reaches its limits. Replacing that might fix the switch. Trouble is I don't know exactly what it is. Maybe some one clevererererer than me knows.

Other problems are noisy suspension bushes (solution lube 'em) A climate control that went Birko but eventually seems to have rest itself. The handbrake cable is obviously made of cheese... it needs adjusting every time I leave the car at Andrews parking... they must employ weight lifters to park the cars.

problem: cruise control does work...
dont take it to a specialist yet way will cost you heaps..
fix: under the steering wheel, at the base of the cluch there is a limit switch, that stops the crusie control when you push the cluch in. ajust the scew.
problem: speedometer has spikes..
fix: this is the sensor in the gear box, go to a ford dealer you can by a new on for about $50, it is easy to replace just undo a bolt and pull it out of the gear box... take off the gear and put onto the new sensor...

Is this at all in relation to the cruise control issue I have, the issue being that if i'm travelling up a hill and have cruise control on, get to the top, apply the brakes and turns the CC off, then i'm on straight and level road and turn CC back on, it seems to go crazy? I'd be at 65km on the flat surface, apply CC for the current speed, but for some reason decides to accellerate to 75km? Then slowly... slowly... begins to settle down to 65km again. It's a pain in the ****. Almost got me pulled over a few weeks ago.

Default Power window will not move.

Power widows will not go up. Several windows affected. Pulled out switches and then pulled the switch apart and cleaned contacts. Even though the contacts were pitted. Used what is called micro-scrub contact cleaner (similar to a scourer). No problems since.

How expensive are these switches? Where can I get em from? My drivers side window stuffed up, cleaned it etc etc as much as I could but no go. I ended up putting it on the passenger side.

How does a broken ariel mast present itself does your ariel not go up or down or is the reception stuffed. My reception is stuffed but i think it is getting interference from the RDP ecu doobee i had installed.

Hi, yes the mast will not go up and down, you can hear the motor going but the mast stay's up, I need to know if I have to take the wheel and the body skirt off to fit a new one in and if so will it brake the clips that hold it all on? My son own's a EA that he has spent 1000's on with the Turbo and every thing, but I've only had my AU for a few months and Im not sure how to fix the ariel so I thought I would jump on here and see if anyone out there Know's. regards XR8

Default CD's jammed in AUII

I have an AUII, 2001 XR8 with in-dash 6 stacker. (20,000K's)
The CD's keep getting jammed in the player, and can't be removed.
It has been repaired twice before, but keeps on happening.

Does anyone know if an aftermarket CD system will fit?? If so, type etc

Thanks

Mark

Default Auto Transmission Problems

I have an AU2 and my transmission keeps slipping while im driving which causes it to jerk. I happens no matter how long i have been driving for. Does anyone know what might be wrong. It also stalls sometimes for no reason, usually around corners. Help!

Had the same problem, mine kept getting worse, adding some transmission fluid fixed the slipping. I found there was a a crack in the radiator that was leaking transmission fluid into the coolant. I set up a separate transmission cooler to fix the problem.

My antenna doesn't go down at times, I have to push the antenna down a bit & then it will go down automatically.

The buttons for automatic window also don't work on the back doors.

I believe that means the actuator in that door is faulty and needs replacing.

Having killed my DL LTD a couple of weeks ago after using a lexus as a bonnet ornament I now find myself the proud and happy owner of a 2000 model AU LTD so far so good, runs like a train, got the usual intermitent missing digits on the LCD display thingy (thanks to everyone who posted the dude in Morrabin's contact details, will be calling him Monday) the only thing that bugs me now is a slight hissing sound when I accelerate,it dies off once you back off the pedal. seems to be coming from under the dash on the drivers side, no real impact on performance just annoying anyone had a similar problem?
I had a similar thing on the DL just before the brake booster crapped itself but there is no reduction in braking efficency like there was with the DL.
Oh and hats off to the morons at ford who wrote the owners manual... had to reset the alarm (not difficult) but the manual says nothing about holding in the bonnet open switch or getting your ears blown out not to mention waking up everyone for 2 blocks at 7am on a saturday morning.

Little things aside I love my new beastie and hope it proves as trouble free as my dearly departed and sorely missed DL

Yep I have the same problem and are anxious for an answer on this ASAP!
I also get a large "crack" sound emitting from the front passenger door/ jam/dash area when I go over harsh / sharp bumps and it's totally annoying. Anyone else have this and found a resolution?

Just had the body control module replaced on my car. Got Ford to do the install as I didn't trust the local auto electrician as I think he stuffed original module whilst installing replacement aerial but couldn't prove it. Cost $850 ouch! Beware people.

Damn ... I have a spare BEM sitting at home ... could have had it for $20.
I know an auto electrician that can reprogram the BEM as well.
