Default Dead man fine scam: 120 arrested

Anyone know anything about this?

http://www.smh.com.au/news/national/...266451479.html

It's not surprising that this hasn't made the forum. Its not as though anyone's going to jump up and say "It's not fair, those damn cops arrested me over a simple fraud"... Blah blah.

Pay the fine or fight a fraud charge.....hrm....sounds like the only thing that could solve that question is an eseries poll.

You might chuckle but E-Series polls have laughed at detailed debates and indepth investigation and have made answering complex questions as easy as ticking boxes.

How else will E-Series owners find closure without having a poll, important questions such as: which exhuast? to kill or not kill the amber? what do you think? should I take more photos of ride? should i have started this poll? what driving music? and on and on etc etc...

I think that the fraud cases should simply take their course.... But since they have defrauded the GOVERNMENT out of preciuos revenue!!! God help them. If it was party A defrauding party B, with no government involvement, do you reckon there would be any chance of it going so far???

Lol, i didnt think anyone could turn this into an anti government story?? But there you go! Certainly an interesting perspective you bring tho! I dunno, can the state level fraud charges against party A, or does party B have to press some sort of charge?

Seems like an awful lot of valuable police resources for $80k?? And to charge them all?? Im all for people getting their just deserts but i cant help but feel if the already-clogged court system could be reserved for less "cut and shut" offences.

But its amazing what people will put on a stat dec these days. Do people not realise what it means when they sign one? To lie on a stat dec... it's not something that should be done lightly.

Is it really offences that are worthy of a "taskforce"?

why didn't they arrest Marcus einfield though?

Only some stupid idiots who all used some names and licence numbers they found on the net.

Don't they have family who live overseas who visit Australia?

Does anyone really pay the fine and take the poinys any more?

the only people i know who pay the fine are honest enough to do that till they lose ther licence then drive unlcensed for three months to get all their points back.

The whole camera infringement points system is a bit of a joke and needs rethinking

I didn't turn this into an anti government discussion. It is the current labour government that using driving fines as revenue raisers. I am opposed to any governemnt that puts revenue before road safety..... But I am sure that if any liberal government got into power the situation would be just as bad, if not worse. Road safety must come first, not petty politics.

The point I was trying to make was. When the government is defrauded out of a bit of revenue, all hell breaks loose. If someone defrauded you out of 80K, on say, a house deal. Do you think that the police would come running as fast as they have here?

But I am glad that you saw my "overall point".

This scam has been around since the scameras have been in operation.
The dumb thing these people did was to use the same person. Everyone knows to make up a name and pick a large residential building, give the street address without the unit number and never here from it again.
The RTA/Infringement will send 2 letters then hand it to the State Debt recovery office who have no power to investiage, so they will send a few more letters and after 3 years write it off.
If I am going to pay a fine, I want it handed to me by a cop or parking officer.

I was wondering the same thing myself. :hihi:

Here’s the related story for anyone who’s unfamiliar with it.

Whats the story with giving it to someone interstate? Don't the same penalties apply? Or was the interstate person made up?
