Default VE crashes worse than VZ

Anyone see the GoAuto story about how the VE has a lower overall score than the VZ in the ANCAP crash tests. Not by much, but after all the talk of the high strength steels etc etc they fitted to the VE, the side impact was considered worse than the VZ. So much for progress. But Holden consider the Barina crash test acceptable I spose.

Wonder whether the side airbags were fitted to the car that was tested?

I cannot see how it is possible for the VE to be worse than the VZ, however it is obvious there are definitely some inconsistencies in these ancap tests.
Here they rate even the EF/EL safer than the BA. Please explain?

Another inconsistency

The Holden Barina scores 4.39/16 in the offset test and 10.57/16 in the side impact test to achieve a 2 star rating.

The Daewoo Kalos scores 5.90/16 in the offset test and 11.73/16 in the side impact test to achieve a 3 star rating.

Now these are EXACTLY the same cars. Why the inconsistency?

I'd assume because its a single test and that every car is different. Plus there would be a few differences between both those models of Daewoo, the Kalos is fairly old now, and would have had a number of changes since it was released.

Apparently not.

It is surprising that the VE is no better then the VZ. The big increase in weight from VZ to VE was supposedly to allow the VE to meet new ADRs and thus make the VE safer then the VZ. Just another example which shows that the VE is not as good as what the media claims.

The holden boys will tell you that ANCAP is nonsense and the VE is built for real world scenarios.

Well, thats was the general vibe on LS1 :

That may be the case, but ANCAP is the only was to compare different vehicles under the same conditions.
