Well I have had to make the decision to sell my 98 EL XR8. Decision sux but I just cant afford the fuel anymore it was costing me $90 a week to get to work and back so its as good as gone on the 21st. I have the XW for fun still and now have a New Colt 4cyl buzz box on order from Mitsubishi. I tried to stick with the oval but the only thing around was a Fiesta and they were all just coming out of warranty and had around 25 - 40K's on them for around the same money. Anyway I hope the new owner enjoys her like I did it is an awesome car, and this decision sux.
This pic taken this morning. Ben

A $2500 gas conversion could've solved your dramas and out of that you get $2000 back. I did it to my windsor and now I'm enjoying 560km per tank.

I refuse to run a car on gas, I dont like it and it stinks !!!
My mate has an EF Ghia I6 on gas and it only gets 420 K's a tank. It wasnt for sale on here, It seems you get alot of people telling you about how there mate knows of one thats cheaper etc ..... from past experience that is.

It's a sign of the times having to part with a nice car due to obscene fuel prices.
Gas or diesel are the best way to go, pity the fun factor goes as well. : |

In comparison, the Peugeot costs roughly $65 to fill and gets roughly 850-900km per tank. It costs 8c per km. In all honesty, running a big 6 on LPG has no ill effects and is a lot cheaper to run than a small 4 banger on petrol. This I have based on the time when we had my in-laws 2000 Corolla and the EL. It cost less in petrol to use the EL each week than it did the Corolla. As another comparison, your friend is only getting 420km out of a tank of LPG. That tank probably only cost $30-$35. Now, take your $90 that you spend on petrol and for the same cost, that is 3 tanks of LPG. That means you could travel roughly 1000-1200km for the same cost.

Sorry to hear it mate, thats a super pretty XR.
The LPG debate goes on and on and I used to be a anti-LPG'er. But having driven a BA with a VSI LPG system, it runs better, smoother, makes more grunt everywhere. Overall, the car feels like the manufacturer should offer it as standard equipment. Car like yours I'd have taken the plunge and taken the 2K hit for the injected system, good EL XR's arent that common these days and yours is unusually sweet

That's one nice EL XR8 AUlien. It's a shame your selling it.
We had to make a similar decision a while ago, but found it was actually cheaper to run the XR8. I don't know about your situation, but we own our XR8 outright. So once we factored in the repayments on a new car (Focus) over 5 years after trade in, plus fuel, it was cheaper per week to own and run the XR8. |

Looks very clean and such a shame you had to sell it. Petrol, amongst other things steered me away from a V8 and into a turbo 4.

AUlien, have you considered one of the new turbo diesel cars, say like a VW Golf, Peugeot 307 or similar? Don't rule those cars out, they are great and get ~900km per tank of diesel. Our Peugeot is nearly as cheap to run as the EL. The Pug is 8c/km and the EL is 6c/km. Coming from a V8, you'll love the torque of the turbo diesel too!
