Default LS Focus temperature gauge

Does anyone know, is the LS Focus temperature gauge fully functional, or is it an "indicator" like the oil pressure gauge in the AU series II & III?

up to operating temp (92 or so deg) its a guage then it becomes an indicator. I find it a bit funny, that the water temp stays the same on a 0 deg night 5th gear 80kmh compared to screaming up a mountain pass up around redline on a 30 deg day.

I thought as much. On a 5 degree morning you can watch ours climb from stone cold to "normal" in a matter of minutes and it makes the sweep from cold to where it normally sits in a few seconds, making the movement in about 4 steps.
I can tell you that the car definately isn't at operating temp yet by the luke warm air coming out the floor vents :P

Warm air comes out of my vents when the temperature has just moved off cold, but when its in the middle it gets really hot.

I have been taught that most factory gauges are more or less just indicators becuase of the cost of making precise gauges. I have often seen big differences in the temp on the guage and the actual temp when using workshop equipment.
Where after market products are a more precise at a price!

If you get into the diagnostics part of the cluster, one of the slides show engine oil temp or similar. temps around 129 degrees and varies almost instantainious when loading the engine.

-2deg around Bathurst at 3am and 1deg in Campbelltown at 6:30am. Both in the past month... So much for global warming.

When you hit 4 a yellow icicle light comes on to tell you there could be frost on the road and when you go below 0deg it turns red to warn about black ice.
