As long as the pay is good and I have Saturday nights off I would be happy doing it. Day or night = I don't really care :

Plus early in the morning or late at night is good to drive. No traffic and intake temps are perfection ;)

I used to do afternoon shift 4pm - 1am.

Shift loading was nice to have....as a 22 year old I was making a lot of money, more than the day shift foreman.

I had the occasional long lunch and went to work in a relaxed and merry mood.....and then hid from the boss until I felt better

Driving home at 1 and 2 in the morning was the interesting part.

People slow down, look left and right then drive through red lights, cabs, newspaper delivery trucks, cops...general public

I got pulled over first week driving home...just because the cop was bored and I as the only car he'd seen for 15 minutes.

I saw what I think was a drunk driver...weaving a little left to right...then pulled over and threw up out the driver door.

Nearly hit a roo whilst driving in suburbia munching on grass in someone nature strip....(I did live in an outer suburb of melbourne)

It was a different life and it was nice in many ways...would have done it for longer but stopped for other non shift related (and boring) reasons.

I don't know if you would call it night shift... But it freaking early !

My days start at 2am, 7 days a week. :
I have a Monday to Friday job, but I also own a business which distributes news papers and magazines.

Monday to Friday I do a 2am till 5.30am at my own business then head off to the 'day job' till 4pm.

On weekends, its just the papers and mag's - 2am till 10am.

Its enough to keep me out of trouble.. :

yeah do a bit of night shift, don't mind it that much, but it's normally just a small crew and there are no bosses around, You know what you need to do so you just do it.

I can't say I've ever had the pain of working the night shift, but my roommate has been doing rotating shifts for a few months now and nothing will stop her complaining. She's as quiet as a mouse when he comes home though, and I sleep sound as a log so it doesn't disturb me (which is the most important part).

Hi there , I work 2 days (10 hrs) 2 nights (14 hrs) then 4 days off.
Work as an ambulance paramedic, dont mind nite shift as long as the people calling the guts bucket really really need one instead of all these plonkers wasting valuable paramedic resources when they could have got in their own car and driven to hospital themselves !
Which hospital EFIwindsor ?
I will get in on the act too.
WHAT DO YOU DO OUTBACK JACK ???

I can relate to your frustration about people calling up for stupid reason and using the ambo's as a taxi service. Just like ppl using ED as a GP centre.

Permanent night shift would be okay. Rotating rosters suck, I do 6am to2pm for 2 weeks then, 10pm to 6am..2 weeks then, 2pm to 10pm for 2 weeks...been doing it for 17 years. I work in a hospital.

done night shift for the last 18 months, 9:00pm till 5:00am.

cash is good, dont have to deal with peak hour traffic, but gf and family all work days so most day i find myself with around 5-6 hours of sleep.

if i could though id loose my 30% loading and go to day shift 8:00am till 4:00pm, and work overtime and finish at 7:00pm and clear more cash just to get a normal lifestyle and sleep pattern back.

i find the worst thing about nightshift is sleeping during the day especially when you have noisy neighbours, but thats ok they have the xr8 as there alarm clock at 5:15am each morning haha ;)

I'll beat you hands down at your own game in A&E...just to clarify spent 30+yrs as Fire and Rescue and rode shotgun with ambos in The Alice for 10yrs...seen and done more than you would wish to see and do.

As for presenting when your on duty ...you better be the best in your game lest I chew you up and spit you out.

Been doing rotating shift work for the last twenty odd years. Currently on two 12 hr days, two 12 hr nights-6am to 6pm then 6pm to 6am then four days off. Is great except when the shifts fall on weekends when I would rather be away racing than at work, lol.

Depends on the type shifts ..some do if on a 10/14 roster..then the amount of head on pillow is upto the ppl who crash cars, light fires, hoax calls..etc.

So what's your job..nurse?

They can get it rough..druggies..drunks who can be abusive and violent.

Yeah RN.

Currently work
0700-1530 AM
1430-2300 PM
2245-0715 n/duty

There are also some day shifts

I'm currently pushing for 12 shifts for those who want to them cause I work 2 jobs and want some more days off.

12 hr shift roster would be 3 days on week and 3 nights the next week
