Default Political Advertising

Ok, Today topped it off!

Over the past week I've recieved 9 Letters! 3 from the Aust Election Commitee addressed to "The current residents" (i've lived here with my partner for 8 years) stating that i should be enrolled to vote!

3 from various Federal members(1 each for myself and partner) bagging the the other party's policies and hardly mentioning their own!
I also have an interest commercial property which is leased out to doctors(has been for years) I cleaned out the mail box tonight and guess what.....12 letters! all of the same crap!

So thats 21 pieces of mail. The Members letters also contain a full colour glossy brochure on their ramble!

All of which we have all paid for!

Lets say that they are a dollar each, (postage, envelope, printing etc).... do the math!!! Million's.....

And to top it off....... the election hasen't even been called yet!

So my question is, Should there be a "do not mail political material" register like they do for telemarketers, so at least people can nominate wether they want their letterbox filled with this stuff... (along with saving a #%#$load of money), or should the Polticians have the right to spend tax payers money to push thier agenda's in whichever media they see fit?

I know what I'll be voting for!

The only problem with a Do not mail register is that political parties would be exempt just like they are on the Do not call register.

and since they moved the goal posts and abolished the legislation that made the parties file election returns disclosing election expenditures we will never know just how much of our money they are actually spending..

The poll is a bit of a strawman lol. Where's the option for "No - its their money, let em do what they want"

Well there is some public money appropriated to the parties but i'd wager that these items are paid for by the party member's controbutions. Unless you're a member of one of the parties, i wouldnt be too worked up about them wasting your money

Strangely enough, we dont hear jack from either party at my place... i guess that's because it's been a safe seat for a certain party since the 70s.

Just remember to recycle

Oi. Keep it nice now.

Live in Bruce, so it's Allan Griffen.

Regardless of whether I am running or not, the donkey vote has been prevalent for a long time.

I believe its your legal right to do so However, logic would suggest that you forfeit the opportunity to b*tch about the elected representatives wouldnt it?

I think you should know that all sitting (federal) members members get an annual allowance, that they can roll over from year to year, (and it is 'our' money) to use for 'publications'. It is not rare to have a minimium of $180.000.00 to play with at election time...

A drop in the ocean from our supposed best economic managers of all time. $400m for Baxter detention centre, four years old and $23m p/y to run - just walked away. Another $600m for Xmas island and it aint finished yet! Then $1B for Naru... Another couple of billion for an Access (ID) Card that has been put on the back burner till after the election (because it was another hot potatoe?). $17 billion surplus!! They have never had so much money to play with and it is all ours!! Why haven't we got the best roads (dual highway from Brissy to Melb for example?). How come our hospitals and schools are screaming out for funds? Bloody politics I hate all of the bastards :

The political advertisements are mainly propoganda. It's pathetic.

Want a fact?

I'm a Liberal.
Last time Labour was elected there were 17% interest rates.

A do not mail register would be as useless as the do not call one. I'm on the do not call register but still get calls from some Indian bloke flogging phones off. :

Beauty mate. Perhaps you could tell us why there are so many people currently losing their homes because they can't afford the repayments then?
