Ok, i'll defend the nuke method, take my case for example:
20 year old single male
Living alone
Prefer to drive 20 minutes to maccas than peel a potato. (or wash dishes for that matter..)
NFI how to cook anything, I burn toast every time, and i tried an omlette once, instead came out like scrambled eggs...
If it wasnt for the microwave, and electric frypan on my bench, i would die. Literally.

+1 for Microwave

Hahahaha , I can relate to that ,mate ,
+1 for the "Nuke Method"

If you want "Good" Fried Rice , cooked Just right , plenty of Goodies in it . eg. Ham , Corn , Prawns etc . OR a Good boiled Rice , Not Crunchy , Not "Sludgy or Gooey" . Or any food .

Make Sure you get hooked up with a Mrs who can COOK , I did , she can cook nearly Everything , even the kids come back for 2nd's , 3rd's ,,,,,
Damn it's all gone & some stuff always tastes better the next day . :
