Just wondering if anyone has driven the newl highway lately from melb to brissy. Last time i drove it there were locusts galore and wet bitumen every where. It took me hours to get all the tar off and the locusts ruined my front bar, now i have the baxr8 i don't want to go through that again. Is there any locusts or wet bitumen lately, and if so where?

No locusts anywhere near Dubbo or Coonabarabran. Not sure about the other streches though.

Last time I drove the Newl it was pretty bad, got pulled up south of Dubbo and the copper practically accused me of hacking up some ones paddock because of the crud all down my car

MotherNature that's were the locusts i hit last time were, around dubbo. I can cope with the bitumen as you can get it off but locusts stain the the hell out of front bars. Stuff a car bra way too expensive.

i drive it every week and it is bad for tar. meguirs have a spray on stuff you put on your bar before you go on long trips and u just wash it off when u get home. if not just go hume then pacifichwys if ya keen.

don't want to add an extra 3 hours going the other way. So no locusts just tar?? How much is that meguirs stuff, can you get it from anywhere that sells there products?

Mate, you shouldn't have many or any locutus along that hwy, this time of year. You might have a fair bit of water at the moment though. The highway from Goondiwindi to Toowoomba was cut last week and we've had more rain since.

Went down there a few weeks ago and it was fine ... but there is only one way to find out !
I'd be more worried about how bloody rough the road is. |

Driven the road 4 times now don't mind the roughness its when you hit the locust and they are so thick you cant even use your wipers as they get stuck, and it ruins your front bar with stains. Cheers for the reply's looks like i'm going up the newel.

I drove it earlier this year and no problems great road no bugs, hardly any grey nomads, also get off Hwy at Seymour don't go via albury (truck drivers tip to me) and go via warrick and cunninghams gap not Toowoomba, Good place to stay overnight is Parkes DON"T stay at Dubbo many cars get broken into at motels there

BCR2734, i asked at autopro and looked in the meguirs product guide and there is no product like the one you explained???
I was thinking of giving the front bar a polish and then wax and leave the wax on. i figure then if i use bug and tar remover it will only remove the polish and won't damage the paint??? any suggestions? leaving on saturday. |

I drove it from Vic to Goondi a few months back, and up the Leichhart to Rocky, road was in good nick all through NSW, although gets a bit rougher more north you go. Truckies were fine, few caravans and motorbikes with trailers.
We stayed at Goondi on the way up an Coonabarabran on way back, nice motel there |
