Default The VALUE of number plates?

Hey guys

Been asked if my plates are for sale on another forum, and the guy has offered me a measily 650 for mine, now i was thinking i shouldnt let them go for that.

As they are MY plates and they arent for sale, so he should offer a damn impressive price, and 650 is NOT impressive IMO, he wants them for his drifter Nissan Cefiro, which is Prolly more of a barge then the ol XT lol, but either way, i got em so ner!

What value would you put on my plates?

Keeping in mind that the Prestige plates are no longer available, and the only alternative is BAR63, which looks cr@p!

I say it's up to you.
Do the plates mean something to you?
I know I whinge when I get my rego renewal ($400 a year for the plates), but they're meaningful to me, so I wouldn't part with them.

Then again would you use them on the car you replace the barge with?
If not tell him you might be interested at a later date, but you'd want a better offer.

If you aren't selling them, then don't put a dollar value on them. If you are, then they are worth what the potential buyers think they are worth.

I Love them, they are not going with the car unless somone offers me a price I cant refuse.

Im just curious on other peoples opinion of their or my plates, I already have a price in mind ;)

Im just as happy to leave them on the Wall after the car goes, in qld we dont have a annual fee, just the $395 that I paid upfront a year ago and I can keep them.

And I probably would use them on the Jeep when I get it, as it kind of suits it when it comes to water crossing ;) but will be replaced with new ones when I get them

If he can afford POS 20" chrome rims for his POS nissan he can fork out more for the barges plates!! :
Just be careful though, if you take the plates off you have no chance of selling the car :P

You paid cost price, he's offered more - at the moment, that's what they're worth.

Sorry mate but I think he was about right. But that said, if your not going to be interested in selling the plates, who cares, If they were mine, and they had any form of sentimentel value, it would take big bucks to pry them off me too.

That said I don't quite get the whole thing behind paying thousands of dollars for a license plate most people can't decipher straight away. If it was a proper word ie- BARGE then yeah I could understand but when you start substituting numbers for letters, the value goes down in my book.

I can't offload my old plates from the XE ESP

XXESP

I tried selling them for $600.00 and had no takers despite all the "legible" combos for the ESP being taken.

I think any custom or personalised plate needs to strike a chord with the prospective buyer to be worth anything. Its an emotive purchase. There is no automatic value associated with these sorts of things..............

I now have custom plates on the BFGT........they are the build number of the car..........GT ****.....These I'm sure would be worthless to anyone but me.....

People will only pay what it is worth to them, question is, what are they worth to you? My advice is keep them regardless of price. They have a rep, and look schmick. Like your ride.

$650 for 84RGE??? $395 for replacement version BAR63.

BAR63 is no worse than what youve got now IMO. Id be buying BAR63 for $395, and offer him which ever he wants but ask for $800.

Yes I agree. Now where can a get a Phase 3 GTHO for $5200?

If you want it and there are no more then you have to pay what the seller asks.

There is no technical difference between a genuine XY GT part and an exact replica but the genuine always costs more (much more). Why?

Because the buyer wants to buy it. Emotion not logic always rules.

Now while we are all fired up, I have a QLD prestige plate FPV F6 that can be yours for a mere insignificant $5000 donation to "Save the flappist fund".

Anything is worth what somebody is willing to pay.

To me, your plates are intrinsically worthless, I don't want them and would remove them if I bought a car with them on.

Basically, it appears to me you're being overly hopeful.

You need to spend some more time with computer geeks like me hehe ;)

If they carry some sort of sentimental value, don't sell them. If not you are probably making money ontop of what it cost you for them anyway, so why not? If i had to value your plates, i would say 1/4 to half of what you bought them for, but it isn't a computer so i'd have no clue haha.

I was offered $7000 for the plates on my GT-P, but they weren’t for sale. I’ll hand these things down to my son when I’m too old or too dead to use them.
