Question Ford performance

So what ford built car warrants "the performance tag". An xy gt, an xd v8, an eb gt, any of the xr6/8 the ba fpv s.? Or maybe anyone of the cars built by ford from the sixties to now, that has been modified to "your" liking. That is built the way ford should have built it?

This is my Personal list, XR GT, XW phase 1 & 2, XY Phase 3, XA RPO,
All the XR 6's before the BA, ED XR8 Sprint, AU T3's and 250 Pursuit, BA XR6 Turbos.
BA MkII 6 speed GT/GT-P/Pursuit. The redone F6 Typhoon/Tornado

All above being factory stock, the rest were nothing special compared with their rivals

At one point the XF Falcon S 4.1 Alloy Head EFI was Ford's sportiest car.. depends on the series of Falcon you're looking at.

He appears to be asking about Fords in general, not just Falcons. Didn't ford once build a factory drag car, I think it was called the Thunderbolt or something, with a ridiculously large big block that ran 12s. Am I just making this up? I'm sure I remember reading about it. Obviously an American car.

Can't forget the Shelby Muzzers and of course the Ford GT40.

Cams290- you have answered my question. Someone who shall remain anon said, in a discussion, that the xr6,s, were not a performance vehicle by any stretch of the imagination.
Steffo- do you know what ford actually did to the xf s. I am running the original tyres on it and it goes faster than 185 klms an hour. 215/65 hr14. This was done on the old airport at eagle farm,so no one was around.

from the factory.... all the GT's and the XR6 Turbo. thats about it.

But any of the cars can be modified to be high performance, all you need is $$$$$$

Well, if we're talking all-out performance.. 1967 Ford GT40 Mk4... 373kW 637Nm (500hp 470ftlbs) 7.0litre (427ci) Big Block V8, 1000kg (2200lbs) weight..

Pulled 0-100km/h in 3.2 seconds, did the 1/4 mile in 10.9 seconds, and went on to a 354km/h (221mph) top speed. No factory car was faster until the McLaren F1's release in 1993.

I'm not sure what you mean. The XF with the best engine, 4.1 EFI Alloy Head made 103kW and 316Nm. It was available with a 3 speed automatic, 4 speed manual, or 5 speed manual. Top speed in auto form was 175km/h. Apparantley, the five speed one could hit 200km/h, but I wouldn't want to try...

What the hell? So the Ford GT40 (fastest production car on the planet at the time) isn't a performance car? The Typhoon/Tornado isn't a performance car? What about the Shelby Mustangs?

Driver Gas Ronda dominated NHRA's 1964 World Championship by running his T-bolt through the quarter mile in 11.6 seconds at 124 mph. Of the 111 total built, at least 99 of them had manual transmission, and the first 11 were painted maroon, the rest were white.

Production: Thunderbolt: 100
Engines: 427 V8 425 bhp @ 6000 rpm, 480 lb-ft @ 3700 rpm.
Performance: Thunderbolt: 427/425: 1/4 mile in 11.76 seconds.

They're awesome. I have a pic of one which has a headlight each side taken out and this massive aircon style ducting tubes leading to a dual carby intake. Top stuff.

That picture is a Fairlane, on which the Fairlane Thunderbolt was based. The Thunderbolt had only one head light each side and a fibreglass hood with a huge power bulge right in the middle.

Found die cast models on E-bay. I love the steering wheel, would be quite a handful with all that poke. Now why couldn't Ford do that to a BAGT....

All depends when it was manufactured and what you consider more important, kW or torque...

According to Falcon Facts ( http://www.geocities.com/falconfacts.../xffalcon.html ), the most powerful Falcon before the the change to unleaded in January 1986 was the 4.1L Alloy Head EFI 6 cyl, with 120kW @ 4000rpm & 333Nm @ 3000rpm, after January 1986, it was the unleaded version of the same engine, with a slightly lower compression ratio (8.8:1 vs 8.7:1) 1kW more power (121kW @ 4000rpm)
but less torque (325Nm @ 3000rpm, down from 333Nm @ the same revs).

Having said that, I think I'd rather have my XF - even if it's not the most powerful (103kW @ 3750rpm/316Nm at 2400rpm), I'd much prefer to work with a carby then the EFI system the XFs had, and because it's an '85, no catalytic converter... :hihi:

Not sure where you got those figures from mate, those are the stats for the carby fed, pre-unleaded engine (mine), not the EFI...

Although I'd settle for an Escort Cosworth...

Cosworth YBT engine 2.0 litre DOHC 16v Turbocharged inline-four
Max power 227bhp at 6250 rpm with max torque 220 lb.ft at 3500 rpm

I'd be happy with that, although I doubt the boost would stay stock forever... :hihi:

And of course, I couldn't say no to a Phase 3 GTHO...
