A thread in the XRTforums says the points for minor speeding have been reduced BY one not TO one., which if true means I'm still up the creek.

Normally Govt's can be relied upon to defer any decison they don't have to make but this Rees mob is getting desperate to get re elected so maybe something will come of it yet.

I got through my P's without one fine. and then got my license payed for for a year. i didn't realize that they did that.

still to this day i have no idea how i got through those 2 years without getting one. must be lucky or drive really slow :S

Ive recently hit my 12 points. All due to incremental small speeding fines. If i managed to hold out until april i would've had some room to move.

I'd been very careful, knowing i was low on points after i got hit doing 110 on the highway during the christmas holidays. Used cruise control everywhere, sitting in the slow or middle lanes of the highway.

I decided to take the old HG Prem out for a spin on a sunny sunday afternoon. The Speedo has always been out, but i knew what was 60 and 100 so it didnt really matter. Unfortunatly we'd recently changed the diff, and it had totally slipped my mind the effect on the speedo. I took off from a set of lights accelerated to what i thought was 60... Seemed a bit quick so i just backed off the throttle and cruised, but it was too late. Blue and reds coming from the opposite direction.

So I've paid that fine and Im waiting for my letter so i can get my golden point option. Id take the three month loss, but i need to drive geelong-melbourne everyday to get to work.

I sure as hell hope i get all my points back after the golden point year...

I have to agree with ken2903. Demerit points are gained. I learnt the hardway, having gotten 13 demerit points and served a 3 month suspension.

Its not publicised widely, but in Western Australia, those who have served a 3 month suspension (without gaining additional points) have the demerit points wiped clean. I only noticed after reading http://www.dpi.wa.gov.au/licensing/y...ence/15639.asp It says "The demerit points he accrued for this disqualification are removed from his record."

Something does not sound right here. Say i lost (or gained ) 14 points. I take option one ( not to lose any more points within 12 months ) and at the end of that 12 months i get all my points back. That would mean i would not have to wait for 3 years for my points to expire - i could clean them all up in 12 months.
Just lose all your points ,than drive under speed limit for a year and , vouala, you get all your points back.
I think points still expire at the end of 3 year period regardless and don't get wiped off after 12 months of good beheviour. (at least in Victoria).

Another slightly off-topic question. I'm a Qld'er with Qld license and registration, if I were to get done by a speed camera in Northern NSW, would I get the double demerits? Qld doesn't do double demerit points, but wondering what would happen in this case?

not sure how they work it in VIC , but in QLD its - get to or over 12 points and you get a letter giving you the option to hand in your licence for 3 months or go on a good behavior bond with one point for one year, lose that point and you lose licence for six months. if your carefull and dont lose your point then at the end of the year you get all the points wiped and start again with a clean sheet.

makes you use the cruise control a lot for that year. :eclipsee_

i know a guy who had one point left , got booked again on purpose and handed in his licence for 3 months so he could get his points wiped .

: not sure if i can follow his logic.

I'm on the double or nothing single point at the moment, until march next year. If I accrue 2 points I'm done for 6 months. Going well so far, cruise control is great too

I'm glad they now offer this or I'd have a license suspension on my record which doesn't look good!

edit...thanks mostly to losing 8 points in one go back when I had my XF Fairmont...late to the airport, dec 31st couple years back, multanova on a bushy corner. Ouch.
